Just read this German article about the pending merger of Siemens & Alstom: ZUGHERSTELLER : Fusion von Siemens und Alstom steht auf der Kippe.
What an ironic subject! It almost laser focuses on what is wrong with the European Union as far as economic policy is concerned:
- Leading European politicians bemoan that their train manufacturers cannot compete with the largest Chinese manufacturer that is gaining market share around the world
- The EU was unable to foster big European business (promoting business champions) and that bullet trains were a promising business model of the future
May I remind that train transportation is a very rigid and limited 19th century technology. From a 21st century perspective it is very questionable where trains still make sense whether short or long distance.
