Update Of 1/31/2019

Just watched too other of Howard Goodall’s Great Dates episodes on YouTube: 1874 and 1564
It is absolutely amazing how Goodall presents the history of music.

1874 is about Richard Wagner’s famous Ring Cycle. Did you know that Richard Wagner was an 1848 revolutionary?
1564 is about the invention and impact of the modern violin, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, and much more

Update Of 1/13/2019

Just watched Goodall’s excellent documentary about the Beatles on YouTube: The Beatles: a musical appreciation and analysis, by composer, Howard Goodall
Probably the best Beatles documentary I have ever seen in five decades! Finally I understand much better why the Beatles were so unique and so gigantic musicians

Original Post

I have very recently discovered the overall excellent music documentaries by British composer Howard Goodall on YouTube. Mr. Goodall is an astonishing and very knowledgeable story teller, he sings along, and he plays so many musical instruments in his documentaries.

Here is an eclectic list of Goodall’s videos, I have found on YouTube:

  1. Howard Goodall's Great Dates 1791 (about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and so much more; a series of documentaries recorded in 2002)
  2. Howard Goodall Big Bangs 2 Equal Temperament (This is part 2 of a two part series recorded in 2005)
  3. Howard Goodalls Twentieth Century Greats 3of4 Leonard Bernstein (This is a four part series recorded in 2004; see also here)
