The legal liabilities of some of America’s biggest home builders have surged in recent years as buyers increasingly sue for damages from alleged construction defects.

A company that uses subcontractors is responsible for the work/services/products of these subcontractors! 

"Homeowners say builders are using cheaper materials, cutting corners and hiring unqualified and undersupervised subcontractors, so their homes are shoddier.

Builders say that the claims reflect a tiny fraction of homes and that errors are typically subcontractors’ fault, not theirs. They also say plaintiffs’ lawyers are encouraging homeowners to pursue dubious claims in hopes of landing a lucrative settlement."
