Update of 5/17/2026: It appears both men were not too concerned about their legacy or otherwise they would have done more bold things together! E.g. had Xi Jinping declared to try more democracy, pluralism and federalism in China with the aim to reunite with Taiwan, he would be remembered like one of the great historic leaders of China. Jimmy Lai was not released!

I will be myself in Beijing on Friday 5/15 to attend to an appointment at the German embassy for personal reasons.
