Caveat: I am not an expert on the tunnel system built by Hamas in Gaza.
This tunnel system were an advantage for Hamas as long as the IDF attacked Hamas targets from outside of or from the air above Gaza, but stayed outside of Gaza.
However, once the Israeli Defense Forces have entered Gaza and occupy the area where these tunnels are located it will be fairly easy to destroy the Hamas tunnel system or render it unusable.
There is little doubt that the IDF needs to destroy the Hamas terror infrastructure. It can not be tolerated that Hamas .e.g. has the capability to launch hundreds if not thousands of rockets against Israel.
