"The Maldives, a tiny South Asian archipelago nation, is not just a vacation getaway. The country also plays a key role in shipping semiconductor chips to Russia, acting as a transit point that allows Moscow to circumvent sanctions.
According to a Nikkei analysis, in the year following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, some 400,000 U.S.-made semiconductors worth $53.6 million were shipped to Russia via the Maldives. The country was second only to China, including Hong Kong, in terms of such shipments."
