Today, we met a young Arizonan who enjoys BASE jumping. He did it today from prominent Camelback mountain. We started to chat and he told us of Eloy, AZ where he does sky diving. Never knew Eloy, AZ, but we sure drove by many times going between Phoenix and Tucson.
Eloy, a small city in Arizona with only about 20,000 population (including prison population) between Tucson and Phoenix is quite surprising in some ways. The largest employer is Corrections Corporation of America running four detention/correctional centers there. According to Wikipedia, the majority of the Hawaiian male prison population resides in Eloy. However, Eloy is also the world’s largest skydiving dropzone/center with “over 135,000 jumps per year”. “The clear desert weather allows over 340 jumping days a year.”
Would I be tempted to land in one of those four detention/correctional centers? (just kidding)
