I am not sure you can say something similar about China. On my recent visit to China, I noticed that smoking in public is still very frequent and prevalent among Chinese adults (mostly men, but women too). "China is the world's largest consumer and producer of tobacco, with nearly 300 million adult smokers—accounting for roughly one-third of the global total. While the adult smoking rate is around 23.2%, over half of all adult men smoke, compared to fewer than 2% of women." (Google search)
"... Some countries have seen a decline in smoking among men, but a rise among women. This is not the case in India: tobacco use has fallen substantially for both sexes. ..."
