Japan's Rapidus to build cutting-edge 1.4-nm chip plant in race with TSMC

Good news! Competition is good, more competition is better! This company was only established in 2022.

"Rapidus, which aims to bring production of leading-edge semiconductors back to Japan, is set to start construction on a second plant in Hokkaido in fiscal 2027. Production of 1.4-nanometer chips -- among the world's most advanced -- is scheduled to start early as 2029, narrowing the gap with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., the world's largest chip foundry."
