This Pulitzer Prize winning journalist is perhaps a mouthpiece of Putin the Terrible or just a useful idiot/fellow traveler!
They say, some individuals become wiser with age, others not so much or worse! Mr. Hedges seems to be in latter category!
First of all, Israel and the US are not fighting a war in or against Iran. So far these were well planned surgical strikes against the hegemonic, bloody dictators/theocrats running Iran since 1979.
Second of all, Iran has been waging a (proxy) war against Israel and the West since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
Third, the laicistic Arab world is threatened by radical Iran too!
Last, but not least, the Iranian people may start another revolution to get rid of this regime like they got rid of the Reza Pahlavi in 1979. Sometimes, it takes more than one revolution! Thus, the massive degradation of the military capabilities of Iran is a welcome sign for the Iranian people to get started. I bet there is also a sigh of relief coming from the Arab/Muslim world.
If I am not mistaken Hedges believes Israel's and the US' military interventions in Iran could unite enough Muslims to come to the defense of Iran. As long as the military interventions remain limited in scope, as they have been, this scenario is not very likely. However, a rise in Islamist inspired terrorist attacks against Israel and the West/US is to be expected.
