Gambia’s Ongoing Battle against female genital mutilation

It is one thing to outlaw something, it is quite another to consequently prosecute violators!

Contrast this with the hubris of Western countries, where double mastectomy of girls or teenagers is allowed, because they are diagnosed with the quackery of so called "gender dysphoria". I call that female genital mutilation!

"Throughout the year, scores of women have protested outside of Gambia’s parliament as lawmakers considered reversing the country’s ban on female genital mutilation—a worrisome shift that would have been a global first.

Background: FGM was outlawed in Gambia in 2015, but had never been prosecuted until last year—leading to a backlash and a proposal to reverse the ban.

Status: Lawmakers rejected the proposal in July, keeping the ban intact.
But the real battle to end the practice continues, ”far from the parliament’s chambers and across rural areas” where FGM is still prevalent and remains a highly sensitive topic."
