A chain of failed states in the Middle East

The Middle East is a playground for all kinds of powers!

Namely Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq. What a mess! Largely responsible for these failures: the theocratic dictatorship in Iran.

Lebanon had so much potential to become a modern laissez faire Arab state with Israel as a good neighbor and partner. A beacon of hope no more. It has become a staging ground for a huge and well equipped army of Islamists.

Syria was for decades toying with Baathist socialism (probably sponsored by the former Soviet Union) and was under the rule of the Assad father/son dictatorship. Then a long civil war ...

In Iraq, the longtime dictator Saddam Hussein was toppled, but then what? Since about 2008 political instability and subversion by Iran and Islamists.

The neighborhood of Israel is dangerous!
