Trump to slap tariffs on China, Mexico and Canada on Saturday: White House for failing to interdict and prevent illegal fentanyl export and trafficking

Whether tariffs are a good instrument to achieve the goals is debatable!

However, one may safely assume that the US has tried before to negotiate with these three countries to do more about fentanyl export without much effect.

It has been reported and claimed many times that China neglects or even allows for precursor chemicals to be produced and exported.

Mexico too is supposedly doing too little to interdict and prevent illegal drug production and trafficking.

As far as Canada is concerned I am not particularly aware of its involvement, but the open border sure are an opportunity.

"... The president will be implementing tomorrow a 25% tariff on Mexico, 25% tariff on Canada and a 10% tariff on China for the illegal fentanyl that they have sourced and allowed to distribute into our country,""
