At least three Canadian provinces are exploring options to expand involuntary treatment of people with substance use disorders

Food for thought! For a classical liberal like me this is a tough decision!

However, a temporary measure like this could potentially help to break the cycle of addiction and offer an opportunity to the individual to make positive changes to his or her life. It is worth a try! 

The 1960/70s era of extreme liberalism (e.g. shutting down mental institutions and involuntary treatment) went too far! Some of the homeless are mentally ill and whether their freedom of being homeless improves their condition is doubtful.
