In principal, parents should be held accountable when their underage child commits a murder with a gun. If you have a gun at home with children, then you have automatically increased responsibility and accountability!
However, the circumstances of each case matter a lot.
Some reports suggested that the parents ignored warning signs about the mental condition of their son.
Beware that enemies of he Second Amendment will do all they can to exploit this tragedy as usual!
Caveat: I am not familiar with the details of this case.
According to Wikipedia: "Crumbley's parents, Jennifer and James Crumbley, were charged on December 3, 2021, with involuntary manslaughter for failing to secure the handgun used in the shooting. After failing to appear for their arraignment, the parents were the subjects of a manhunt by the U.S. Marshals; they were caught and arrested in Detroit on December 4."
"James and Jennifer Crumbley, who were each convicted of four counts of unintentional homicide, are the first parents of a school shooter to be held directly responsible for their child’s fatal attack. Both said that they didn’t know about their son’s troubles or plans. Ethan Crumbley is serving life in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of murder in the 2021 killings at Oxford High School about 40 miles north of Detroit. Prosecutors in other states recently charged several parents with crimes related to their children’s shootings but didn’t directly blame them for the attacks."
