Washington at the Plow: The Founding Farmer and the Question of Slavery

Very recommendable! Washington was a very humane slave holder. He had one or two slaves acting as foremen while he was absent from his farm during the Revolutionary War and during his two term presidency.
He also came to the conclusion that modern farming was incompatible and less efficient when carried out with slave labor.
He freed all 123 of his own slaves in his will!
