US Senate bill would exempt fully isolated large off-grid power loads from FERC, Department of Energy regulation

Good news (for e.g. data centers)! Keep the Feds (regulators) out!

"Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., introduced the DATA Act of 2026 earlier this month, a proposal to exempt fully isolated power suppliers for data centers and other energy-intensive industries from federal energy regulations. The bill would remove such facilities from oversight by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Department of Energy if they operate entirely off the grid."
