"At least a dozen people involved in Moscow’s hypersonic research have been arrested on allegations of treason over the past six years. Hypersonic missiles—which can travel at more than five times the speed of sound, launch from great distances and evade most air defenses—are among Vladimir Putin’s pet projects and one of the few areas in which Moscow can claim to lead the world. The risk of leaks worries the Russian president, analysts say. A Kremlin spokesman earlier this year said that he couldn’t comment on the arrests because of the involvement of Russia’s security services and their serious nature."
