U.S. Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves effective January 1, 1808

I had almost a little bit forgotten about this momentous federal legislation.

It was the great Thomas Jefferson who promoted this legislation and as President Jefferson signed it into law.

Another good reason why the new federal holiday Juneteenth is dubious and the next president ought to cancel this holiday.

As I have argued here several times before, the American Civil War was not about ending slavery, but about preventing secession. It was an unnecessary and unconstitutional war. Slavery was already being phased out in other Western countries, so it was only a matter of time to be ended in the U.S. as well.
