A Bizarre National Security Incident In Beijing

Posted:

Why Was This Incident Not Reported Earlier?

A few days ago, the news media reported perhaps for the first time that a strange and unusual incident happened while President Trump visited China in early November 2017.

According to the reports, while the U.S. President and his entourage entered the Great Hall in Beijing on November 9, 2017, a Chinese security officer separated the U.S. official carrying the nuclear football with the nuclear launch codes from the others. Immediately, a scuffle ensued between Chinese and U.S. officials. The official story is that the briefcase with the nuclear launch codes was never touched by Chinese at any time.

Was It An Honest Mistake?

Hard to believe! More likely it was a test of U.S. security procedures and a reminder how inadequate these procedures  and safeguards might be.

One can only hope that China was fooled by this very outdated suitcase containing a credit card size piece of plastic with the nuclear launch codes.
