Good news! Sounds almost like a horror show! Cancer is history (soon)!
This young woman had at least three apparently complicated cancer surgeries. There were at least six specialized doctors involved in her treatment.
"A 19-year-old named Karla Flores has become the first person in the world to have a spinal tumour removed through her eye socket. Lead neurosurgeon Mohamed Labib chose the unusual entry point because it was the best way to access a tumour that was pressing on Flores’s spinal cord near the base of her skull. Even a few millimeters of imprecision could have resulted in a fatal stroke, paralysis below the neck or damage to the eye. Fortunately, the surgery and subsequent radiotherapy was a success, and Flores’ prognosis is “excellent”, says Labib."

The patient, who has no evidence of cancer, required multiple surgeries and received extraordinarily complex care from a multidisciplinary team of physicians that included neurosurgeons, skull base and facial plastic surgeons and radiation oncologists.
In addition to the spinal tumor, she also had a very large chordoma that was wrapped around her brain stem, a critical structure which controls many vital functions. In two separate procedures, UMMC surgeons removed part of the tumor by opening her skull in a traditional craniotomy and then took out the rest by accessing the area through her nose."

To perform the delicate procedure, surgeons lowered a drill through the left eye socket and an endoscope through the right nostril.
