"Since 2022, direct shipments of at least 4 million tons of grain and other produce pilfered from occupied Ukraine generated $800 million in revenue, according to a Ukrainian official. By trading crops that were looted or sold cheaply, Russia not only makes money in the face of international sanctions but also keeps its allies funded and loyal. Wheat is sold directly to friendly nations such as Iran and Syria or brought to mainland Russia and re-exported to global markets to mask its origin. The Kremlin didn’t return requests for comment on its Ukrainian crop exports."
