IBM voluntary Signs European Commission AI Pact like about 100 other companies so far. Really!

What a sycophant! Annoying anticipatory obedience!

Caveat: I am not familiar with the EU AI Pact, but I suspect it is not great!

"IBM today [9/25/2024] signed the European Commission’s AI Pact, a set of voluntary company pledges to further industry adoption of best practices for high-risk AI and help create the right conditions for future compliance with the EU AI Act, which IBM has long-supported.

As an AI Pact signatory, IBM pledges to implement AI governance strategies and work towards compliance with the EU AI Act, including to conduct a mapping of high-risk AI systems and deployments, and promote AI literacy and awareness among employees and clients. These commitments reflect and build on efforts the company has had in place for years as part of its long-standing focus on bringing powerful technology into the world responsibly."

"The EU AI Pact voluntary pledges call on participating companies to commit to at least three core actions:
  • AI governance strategy to foster the uptake of AI in the organisation and work towards future compliance with the AI Act.
  • High-risk AI systems mapping: Identifying AI systems likely to be categorised as high-risk under the AI Act
  • Promoting AI literacy and awareness among staff, ensuring ethical and responsible AI development.
