Why Are Public Libraries Bad!

Posted: 7/25/2014

Prologue

I am trying to keep this blog post very concise. This blog post is more like draft than a finished one.

There a number of related subjects I have not yet had the time to really research e.g.:
  1. Why did Andrew Carnegie turn over his libraries to government entities?

Main Content

The reasons for why public libraries are a bad policy choice are many (listed not necessarily in order of importance or relevance):
  1. Public libraries destroyed or supplanted to a large extent the market for second hand books
  2. Public libraries destroyed or supplanted to a large extent the market for private libraries
  3. It is most likely a more expensive solution compared to private ones
  4. Government controls the content of public libraries
  5. Employees are protected by powerful public sector unions
  6. Public libraries like bureaucracies are user unfriendly and inflexible (e.g. why are public libraries closed at night?)

Big government has brainwashed We The People that public libraries are superior to private, free market solutions by among other things suggesting that supposedly free access to public libraries is better.

The Future Of Libraries Is Bleak

I have blogged about this subject here.
