Covid-19 has demonstrated that the long, multi year vaccine developments of the past are but a medieval curiosity in hindsight. For way too long, the almighty precautionary principle (do no harm or a cover for exaggerated fears) has triumphed over (or trumped) rational assessment and stunted progress! Arcane, cumbersome procedures/protocols/red tape were kept in place for decades ignoring and out of touch with the enormous progress we have made over the past two decades or more in our understanding of medicine and biology etc.
To some extent, we have to thank President Trump for this overdue recognition!
