The newly elected President of the European Union, Ursula von der Leyen, just gave a major speech (perhaps a state of the union type of speech) on 11/8/2019 about the European Union at the prestigious Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Germany. The choice of this incompetent politician to become the EU president is due to the communist and failed chancellor Merkel, whose resignation is has been overdue for years!
The title of her speech is missing from the official document containing the text of her speech (see S3). This is already a glaring omission! Thus the organizers of the venue of her speech titled her speech “Ein Europa, das seine Zukunft beherzt in die Hand nimmt” (roughly A Europe that will grab the future with its hands in a spirited way”) . What a naive and hollow title! Note: I have added emphasis to excerpts of her speech.
The speech is full of platitudes and typical lifelong career politician jargon! Just to give you an idea “Ich finde, die NATO hat sich bei allen Holprigkeiten bis in die letzten Wochen hervorragend als Schutzschirm der Freiheit bewährt. Die langen Linien zählen.” (Difficult to translate in english. I try: I find the NATO despite many instances of clumsiness up until the last several weeks has been a reliable shield of freedom. The long lines count”). Yada yada yada (blah blah blah)
“Das Netz weiß mehr über Sie als Sie selber” (The Internet knows more about you than yourself). This is almost a paranoid attitude! Based on such an attitude it is no surprise that von der Leyen praises and celebrates the excessive European data/privacy protection rules as an accomplishment and a gift to the world (“Inzwischen bezeichnen Profis außerhalb Europas diese Pionierarbeit als Geschenk an die Welt. Keine andere globale Kraft als Europa hätte dies gekonnt.”) Only the European Union, no other global power, could achieve that! Laughable! If the maligned global Internet enterprises would abuse the data that they collect it would be their downfall!
Von der Leyen clearly has an extremely myopic few on companies like Google or Amazon: “Diese Daten sind Gold wert, sie werden gehandelt, aber nicht mit dem Nutzer, sondern zwischen
anderen Firmen in einem weitgehend regelfreien Raum.” As if these companies only trade your personal data in the legal wilderness of the Internet! Her stupidity is boundless!
Von der Leyen praises a long European tradition of balancing government intervention to balance the power of markets and the individual: “Europa dagegen hat eine lange Tradition, den Einfluss von Regierung und Markt in Einklang zu bringen und dabei dem Individuum besondere Priorität einzuräumen. Diese kulturelle Prägung ist Europas großer Vorteil bei der Gestaltung des digitalen Zeitalters.” She believes this to be a cultural advantage of Europe versus the e.g. the free market U.S.
“Die Welt braucht hier mehr Europa.” The world needs more Europe as far as the above balance is concerned! Laughable!
“Es geht um den Schutz der Souveränität des Individuums, und seine volle Kontrolle über die eigenen Daten.” (Europe is about the protection of the sovereignty of the individual and his (her) control over his (her) own data.) Oddly enough, von der Leyen uses here only the male form to express that. That is terribly politically incorrect! Does she not know that citizens or consumer voluntarily give up some privacy in return for excellent and even better services! Does she not know that if citizens/consumers were to boycott her favorite enemy, these companies would lose billions of dollars in an instant!
“Und das beschreibt das Besondere: Europa hat auf diesem Feld die Macht, den Mitgliedstaaten einen Teil jener Souveränität zurückzugeben, die sie und ihre Bürgerinnen und Bürger in der globalisierten Welt längst an Datenriesen verloren hatten. Der Schlüssel liegt in der Kraft der Gemeinschaft.” Her speech gets more bizarre. Now von der Leyen even invokes Nazi language (“Kraft der Gemeinschaft”, “auf diesem Feld die Macht”) to stress what defines European exceptionalism! In her view, Europe has the power to return a part of individual sovereignty that their citizens have lost in the globalized word to the “Datenriesen” (giants of data). Absolutely bizarre and paranoid her speech! Von der Leyen’s public enemy no. 1 are the giants of data!
About Brexit: “Wir alle bedauern, dass unsere britischen Freunde die EU verlassen wollen. Doch die Erfahrung des Brexit hat vielen, die an der EU zweifeln, erst vor Augen geführt, was sie an der EU haben. Der Brexit wurde nicht – wie anfangs zu Unrecht vermutet – zum Start eines zerfallsprozesses für die Europäischen Union, im Gegenteil: So unterschiedlich wir sind – bei den Brexit-Verhandlungen stehen die 27 EU-Länder zusammen. Kein Zynismus, keine Häme – eine gemeinsame gefestigte Position. So paradox es klingt: der Schock des Brexit hat uns stärker geeint. Denn er zeigt nicht nur, was es bedeutet, die EU zu verlassen - sondern auch, wieviel jedes Land gewinnt als Teil der europäischen Union.”. Von der Leyen is totally delusional! Her blind, wishful thinking is spectacular! She really believes that all members (27) were more unified over Brexit and stand stronger together now because of it! In reality, Brexit has the power to dissolve the European Union unless it credibly strengthens again the subsidiarity principle, free markets, and more federalism! The power of Europe is not centralism and empire building but variety of political solutions and voluntary cooperation when needed!
About the Global Warming hoax: “Der Auftrag der jungen Menschen, die heute auf den Straßen demonstrieren, ist ganz unmissverständlich: Es ist unsere Verantwortung, den Klimawandel zu bekämpfen und ihnen einen lebenswerten Planeten zu übergeben. Wir müssen also beherzte Entscheidungen treffen, in Innovation und Forschung investieren und eine Wirtschafts- und Industriepolitik machen, die auf Zukunft ausgerichtet ist. Und wir können und müssen es schaffen, dass Europa bis 2050 der erste klimaneutrale Kontinent ist.”
Von der Leyen is certainly one of the disciples of the Global Warming/Climate Change religion/hysteria! Again, she reveals herself to be totally delusional! She is hiding behind the protests of brainwashed, indoctrinated children to defend her policies regarding this perceived threat!
In her words, we must and we will accomplish that Europe by 2050 will be the first climate neutral continent”.
I have to stop here. Enough is enough. The reader will catch my drift by now …
