Commercial Or Civilian Use Of Drones

Trigger

Amazon just announced that it contemplates to deliver orders by drones in the future.
Here is e.g. a German language article.

Greeted With Ridicule And Protest

Does it matter whether you order is delivered to your home within a day or only hours? This objection is missing the point.

Drones would record images (perhaps intimate) of the destination and people as they approach. This can easily be taken care of.

Some complain of the impending chaos or buzzing of a myriad of drones over our heads. This is not serious anyway and can be solved.

Terrorists would be too happy to deliver bombs anywhere. Well, they could do this already with remote controlled hobby planes.

Advantages

Following list of non exhaustive points are speculative:
  1. Energy savings
  2. Cost savings
  3. Less surface traffic congestion
  4. Less air pollution
  5. Logistics improvements
  6. Urgent and perhaps life saving deliveries could benefit
  7. New applications will be conceived

Australia is a sparsely populated continent. Here drone delivery probably would make a lot of sense and, I believe, it is already being done. China is reported to use drones for deliveries.
