World Health Organisation: 14.9 million excess deaths associated with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. Really?

It was rumored for for some time that the World Health Organisation would further inflate the death count of SARS-CoV-2/Covid-19. Here is now the official announcement!

As if the Covid-19 death count was not already very dubious and significantly inflated, because everyone who died was counted if only the presence of a single virus was detected irrespective of the age and health status or condition of the person. (Caution: Hyperbole)
Not to mention there were also considerable financial incentives to inflate the severeness of the pandemic.

The new death count is about 2-3 times higher now then previously published!

What is the point to inflate the death count? Is it to justify all the egregious government overreaction (e.g. long lasting lockdowns mask mandates)  to a fairly harmless disease that had the effect that in the end the "cure" was a far worse then the disease? In short: A cover up!

You can find my summary regarding the global SARS-CoV-2/Covid-19 pandemic here.

Pay close attention to the dubious method that the WHO applied here: "excess mortality". Whatever that means! There are lies, damned lies, and statistics!

If the WHO cunningly inflates the death toll, why does the WHO not also raise the number of infected worldwide? Could it be it would show again that the death rate of this global pandemic was only about 0.3% relative to total population as is typical for a fairly harmless disease?

"New estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO) show that the full death toll associated directly or indirectly with the COVID-19 pandemic (described as “excess mortality”) between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2021 was approximately 14.9 million (range 13.3 million to 16.6 million).  ...
Excess mortality is calculated as the difference between the number of deaths that have occurred and the number that would be expected in the absence of the pandemic based on data from earlier years.
Excess mortality includes deaths associated with COVID-19 directly (due to the disease) or indirectly (due to the pandemic’s impact on health systems and society). ...
Measurement of excess mortality is an essential component to understand the impact of the pandemic. Shifts in mortality trends provide decision-makers information to guide policies to reduce mortality and effectively prevent future crises. ..."
