Covid-19: Overwhelming Evidence of Massive Government Failure

What did many Western (and other) governments do in the face of the Covid-19 global pandemic? It was Big Government paternalism and nanny state all over again! The lessons learnt are many, but will they be learnt? I am skeptical! 

What we have witnessed is an almost a total disregard for individual liberty and responsibility by our politicians and government! If our elected politicians are indeed representatives of the citizens, then, I am afraid, authoritarian attitudes seem to prevail among the citizenry! Very regrettable!

Perhaps, the only time government did not fail was former President Trump's push for a rapid development of a vaccine bypassing all the usual government roadblocks! Well, former President Trump was not a usual lifelong career politician! He was an outsider and business manager! How refreshing!

Here is an incomplete enumeration of what contributed to the massive government failure. Politicians and government:

1. Incessantly propagated and prolonged an enormous hysteria about a relative harmless disease. Latest by about July 2020, it was pretty obvious that SARS-CoV-2 is by far not as dangerous as initially believed
2. Exploited and abused this pandemic to grab unprecedented and unconstitutional emergency powers to violate citizen's rights!
3. Carelessly ruined many businesses for no good reason. This severe disrespect for a free market economy and the businesses of its citizens is indefensible, but very common!
4. Made the whole population suffer needlessly, especially it caused tremendous mentally harm to many citizens (especially children and teenagers)
5. Resorted on a massive scale to medieval measures (e.g. quarantine, lockdown) to contain/control a relatively harmless disease
6. Failed to focus efforts on protecting the truly vulnerable among the population (e.g. elderly, people with compromised immune system)
7. Relied too heavily relied on scientists (e.g. this clown Anthony Fauci) who were themselves exploiting the crisis by exaggerating the dangers (e.g. dangerous virus mutants, infectivity). The role of scientists in this pandemic needs to be carefully analyzed! How selective were our politicians and governments when they chose scientists to follow?
8. Allowed seriously flawed statistical data to be reported about new cases, deaths etc. Especially, the number of deaths is highly dubious!
9. Wasted huge amounts of taxpayers' money to the tune of a substantial percentage of GDP to provide assistance to remedy this self-inflicted massive government failure! What an irony!
