Revealing Interview With Martin O' Malley

Posted: 4/20/2015

Trigger

This morning on my commute I was listening to an NPR interview with presumptive Democratic presidential candidate and former Governor of Maryland, former mayor of Baltimore Martin O’Malley.

During this interview he tried to position himself as another, lefty champion of the middle class.

Unimpressive Political Career

We lived in the Washington, DC area while he was the mayor of Baltimore and while he was governor of Maryland. If I am not mistaken, then his political career was not distinguished or what did he accomplish?

He was succeeded by a Republican governor.

Revealing His Total Economic Illiteracy

NPR asked O’Malley: “... Marco Rubio ... He argues that an active government actually keeps people frozen at their economic status because if you are well off, if you can afford a lawyer, if you can deal with regulations, you can maneuver through government and stay prosperous. And if you are not so well off, it's harder to work the system. Is there some truth to that? ...”

O’Malley responded: “No, I don't think there's any truth to that.”

To my surprise the NPR interviewer followed up immediately with two questions. I rarely give credit to NPR, because of their notorious big government or lefty bias, but during this interview … (Or was it done to bolster Clinton?).

NPR asked: Not any truth to that?

O’Malley insisted: No, I don't think there's any truth to that. [O’Malley is now on the record!]

NPR did not give up: “Isn't it true that corporations, large corporations for example, are able to deal with regulations in a way that small businesses might struggle with?”

O'Malley became evasive and diverted: “Oh, certainly. I mean, our tax code's been turned into Swiss cheese. And certainly the concentrated wealth and accumulated power and the systematic deregulation of Wall Street has led to this situation where the economy isn't working for most of us. All of that is true. But it is not true that regulation holds poor people down or regulation keeps middle class from advancing. That's kind of patently bulls- - -.”

Red Herring Candidacy

If he is indeed not very qualified to compete, then his candidacy presumably serves primarily to fool voters into believing that Ms. Clinton is somewhat a centrist.
