The electric cars that sank a 2005 built ocean going cargo ship! Let this sink in for a moment (no pun intended)!
"... The captain told Reuters that the lithium-ion batteries in the cars ignited and the fire could only be extinguished with special equipment. ..." (Source)
"The burning cargo ship with thousands of luxury cars onboard sank in the Atlantic Ocean about 253 miles off Portugal’s Azores Islands. The Felicity Ace—loaded with Porsches, Bentleys, Audis, Lamborghinis and other high-end autos, many of them electric—caught fire in February. Electric-vehicle batteries have been known to ignite and burn at high temperatures when they combust. Insurance experts said the cargo was worth about $438 million, most of it for the cars."
