UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals: A Recipe For Big Government

Why did the U.N. choose as many as 17 such goals? To achieve even 3 or 6 of them is already a daunting task. It certainly gives Big Government lots of leeway to intervene and dictate! Many of these goals are dystopian and disturbing!

"The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries"
Did all Western countries vote for this stuff without reservations?

Why this blog post at this time? Well, two prominent organisations just featured these 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals:
  1. The UN says a new computer simulation tool could boost global development | MIT Technology Review "The news: The United Nations is endorsing a computer simulation tool that it believes will help governments tackle the world’s biggest problems, from gender inequality to climate change."
  2. Supercharging sustainable development | The Alan Turing Institute A bold new approach to development economics, championed by the Turing and the United Nations Development Programme, could boost government-backed sustainable development all over the world.
Did not the coronavirus pandemic just teach us again how unreliable large and complex computer models still are. Unfortunately, whoever builds the model whose biases will be reflected in the model. Computer models of this kind (dealing with highly political issues) are mostly tools of propaganda and not science!

Let's briefly go over these way too many goals:
  1. No poverty! Description: "End poverty in all its forms everywhere"
There is no such thing as no poverty! Another disturbing and dystopian goal! Poverty is in the eye of the beholder!
  2. Zero hunger! Description: "End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture"
Zero, really? False promises! Who gets to decide what is food improvement?
  3. Good health and well being! Description: "Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages"
Well being is in the purview of the individual. What does "ensure" mean? More discretion for governments to intervene?
  4. Quality education! Description: "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all"
Sounds OK, but very general and broad! Inclusive and equitable are mutually exclusive terms and a contradiction in terms (oxymoron)!
  5. Gender equality! Description: "Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls"
Socialist dystopia and demagoguery! What about boys and men! This is manifest unequal treatment plain and simple! E.g. defies and contradicts the U.S. Declaration of Independence!
  6. Clean water and sanitation! Description: "Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all"
Sounds OK! Noticed this is the only fairly politically neutral goal so far!
  7. Affordable and clean energy Description: "Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all"
The terms "clean" and "sustainable" should be stricken as it is a propaganda term! What does "modern" mean here? Because coal and crude oil is not modern, we need to ban them?
  8. Decent work and economic growth Description: "Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all"
Who is to decide what is "decent" and what is not? This goal is full of controversial propaganda terms!
  9. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure Description: "Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation"
This goal is very broad and unspecific except for its propaganda terms! "inclusive" and  "sustainable" clearly code words taken from the leftist playbook! "Industrialization" is a very old fashioned term to describe economic development. Do we really want to stick with this?
  10. Reduced Inequalities Description: "Reduce inequality within and among countries"
This is the perfect prescription for all kinds of Big Government intervention into our daily lives! It is so broad as to mean anything!
  11. Sustained cities and communities Description: "Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable"
Loaded with propaganda terms! What e.g. is a resilient human settlement?
  12. Responsible consumption and production Description: "Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns"
Do I need to say anything? You get the idea
