German Greek Crossroads In Recent History

Background

I was a bit baffled about the loaded Greek reaction towards Germany during Greece’s current financial crisis referring to Nazi Germany and the like.

Occupation In World War II

Everybody knows that the German Wehrmacht occupied Greece during World War II. However, according to Wikipedia, the Fascist Italians invaded first and due to their inability to defeat the determined Greek defenses, the Germans felt compelled to aid. Greece was divided between Germans, Italians, and Bulgarians.

First Modern King Of Greece Was A German

Otto, Royal Prince of Bavaria, became in 1832, shortly after Greece’s Independence, the first modern king of Greece. His reign was despised as Bavarocracy. He was deposed in 1862. He is said to have loved the Greeks so much that he was buried in a Greek military uniform.

His successor was a prince from Denmark who reigned until 1913, when he was assassinated.
