As a classical liberal I tend to agree! Though, beware of naive classical liberalism! Individual liberty requires individual responsibility!
The question should be more like how many drugs should require a prescription! There is little doubt that two many drugs are only available by prescription or on the black market!
Who is to pay for the medications? Insurance companies, self pay, or co-pay?
However, there are some relevant concerns:
- How many (irresponsible?) individual will get sick or risk their health, because they were taking the wrong medication for no good reason. E.g. who will pay for their treatment: society, some insurance, or the individual?
- Would a valid medical diagnosis still be required?
- I am sure there are more, not easily dismissible concerns
