The art and craft of a great politician

 Guiding principles are:

  1. Honesty and character above else. Freely admit your mistakes! No vicious or egoistic scheming, tactical moves etc.
  2. Trust free and responsible people to find better solutions. Spontaneous order is not a myth. There are myriad of ways for people to effectively address issues of concern by voluntary self organisation etc. The buck stops with every free and responsible individual. As a politician help with and assist in this process wherever and whenever.
  3. Treat every citizen and fellow politician with greatest respect no matter what their opinion. If you disagree, you may say so.
  4. Achieving reasonable comprises on controversial political issues somewhere in the center between the extreme positions. If a reasonable compromise can not be agreed on, don't bother and don't force it. Explain your decision to the public. If the reasonable compromise was unsatisfactory, but at the time the best possible in order to move on, then explain it to the public and promise to improve on it as soon as possible.
  5. Always promote and support the peaceful competition of ideas, markets, and businesses. Don't let prejudices or stereotypes get in your way. Be always open minded!
  6. Classical liberalism above all. Limited and small government should be the focus and goal at all times.
  7. Term limits (preferably voluntary) for all elected representatives. Lifelong career politicians are neither needed nor necessary nor should it be encouraged!
Some of it may sound very idealistic and lofty, but so are e.g. the Ten Commandments!
