Google Scholar Annoyances

Got an email today (12/6/2022) from Google Scholar asking me whether I want to "Follow articles by Barret Zoph".

Barret Zoph is a very well known machine learning researcher at OpenAI, who I have been following already since about July 2020. The last time I visited his page was in mid September 2022 and I bet I verified whether I am still following him.

So I immediately searched Google Scholar for his name and following Barret Zoph page was the result. Voila! I was unfollowed and the his identifier had changed. Then, I used the old identifier, which I had saved and got this result:

This is not good! Very poorly done by Google Scholar!

Why does Google Scholar apparently allow a user (in this case Barret Zoph) to create a new profile instead of asking him to edit his existing profile? Or why did Google Scholar not reuse his old id?

P.S. Sure, it is an mostly excellent free service offered by Google and you should not be complaining! 😇
