Coronavirus Panic Overshadows Locust Disaster Affecting 12 Countries

Sure locusts are not a contagious diseases, but that humanity in the 20th year of the 21st century still suffers from such biblical plagues as locusts is a huge scandal! Why are we still not able to e.g. quickly use a virus to kill a swarm of locusts?

"The situation remains extremely alarming in the Horn of Africa, specifically Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia where widespread breeding is in progress and new swarms are starting to form, representing an unprecedented threat to food security and livelihoods at the beginning of the upcoming cropping season."
