Today (12/9/2018), a German media article reported that two young men tried to incinerate a sleeping homeless man in the streets. Thanks to a courageous intervention by a woman while the crime was committed serious injury or worse was prevented.
According to the article, the police was able to apprehend the two perpetrators within hours after the crime. One of them had a previous criminal record of violent crimes according to police. These two perpetrators were immediately released again by the police.
This is just another of thousands of examples that the German criminal justice system has been for decades recklessly and irresponsibly lenient even with dangerous criminals!
If you want to find out why international comparisons of incarceration rates are so different or skewed between countries, especially between the U.S. and other OECD member countries, then this might be one answer.
One hopes that the woman who prevented this horrible crime will not become the next victim of these criminals!
