Terrible Neologisms: Assassin's Veto

Posted: 6/1/2016

Every so often clever humans come up with neologisms to capture the imagination or a new concept. However, quite often these newly coined words or expressions are awful. This is one of them.

There is even a WALL STREET JOURNAL article by this title published on 1/23/2015.

Here is a definition of the assassin’s veto found in a recent Cato Institute article: “The phenomenon of killing or threatening to kill those who insult you or your way of life has come to be known as the assassin’s veto.”

Assassins are murderers and therefore have no veto right. Most assassinations in history have been committed without any moral justification.

I humbly propose to send this terrible and misleading neologism quickly onto the dust heap of history!
