To Overcome Widespread Economic Illiteracy

Literacy In The Past

During centuries past the people and governments of the occident and beyond were concerned with analphabetism of the people. Tremendous efforts were expended over centuries to raise the level of literacy among the population.

The Situation

For decades now the more pressing problem is, as I may venture to guess, actually the pervasive economic illiteracy of a large majority of the population in developed countries. Illiteracy regarding the working of free market economies is even worse. To use hyperbole, most people are just familiar with the expression of supply and demand.

Consequences

For one, our elected representatives and so called public servants and public sector employees (e.g. judges) are as economically illiterate as we are.

Because many of us are economic illiterate politicians can sell us baloney all the time! E.g. minimum wages, inequality; ridiculously low interest rates, public overdebtedness; overregulation of many industries; outlandish welfare benefits; and much more.

Economists Are Guilty

Economists ever eager to prostitute their services to governments or lobbies seldom endeavor to teach economics to the common man and woman.

Too many economists are enemies of free market economy. Many economists are biased, prejudiced, and myopic like other human beings. Many economists are big government advocates.
