US Representative Chip Roy (R-TX): Why it's time to pause LEGAL immigration. Really!

Sometimes conservatives or right leaning advocates are dead wrong like in this case!

To insinuate or suspect that many or perhaps the majority of the legal immigrants to America are not assimilating is an insult to many legal immigrants, me included!

Those legal immigrants who defy or resist to assimilate or be part of the proverbial melting pot are certainly in the minority. I bet, the most of the second or third generation of those legal immigrants will become Americans.

Unfortunately, President Trump has already done some damage to legal immigration by raising the fees for H-1B visas to a ridiculous $100,000.

To question the birthright citizenship in the US is certainly necessary in our time as there are e.g. apparently a large number of abuses.

Chip Roy: Why it's time to pause LEGAL immigration | Blaze Media "The Texas congressman argues mass legal immigration, chain migration, and visa abuse are fueling non-assimilation — and warns America risks losing itself without sweeping reforms."

Why you should talk to people you disagree with about politics

Maybe the better argument wins in the end and you can convert a misguided or misinformed individual! Thus, progress is made! The reward of sweet success!

You may want to learn new, pertinent arguments and/or facts you were not aware of before.

You may discovery you have been in a bubble. Time to prick it!

It is good for social cohesion and harmony! It is a matter of courtesy!

Then, there is the famous quote attributed to Voltaire: “I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write.” Or a more popular version: "I disapprove, but I will defend your opinion to my death!"

Caveat: I did not read the entire article.

The Slow Demise Of The Cato Institute

Posted: 5/25/2019

Caveat: I am not familiar with the internals nor the staff of the Cato Institute located in Washington D.C.

Once, not long ago, the Cato Institute was for decades one of the leading think tanks in the U.S. regarding classical liberalism. I used to be a member years ago. I have also attended a few of their events in the past. Cato used to be about: “The Cato Institute is a public policy research organization — a think tank — dedicated to the principles of individual liberty, limited government, free markets, and peace” and “Founded in 1977, Cato owes its name to Cato’s Letters, a series of essays published in 18th- century England that presented a vision of society free from excessive government power. ”

However, over the past two years or even longer, perhaps intensifying with the election of Donald Trump as president, the output of the Cato Institute has become shrill; often very naive, moronic, and ridiculous; and sometimes very counterproductive to the cause.

Here is a very recent, but symptomatic example of what I mean: Today (5/25/2019), the Cato Institute advertised following article on their Facebook page, which ended up on my Facebook page as well. The article featured in this post was Building a Wall around the Welfare State, Instead of the Country (originally published in 2013)
Just the headline itself is so moronic that it leaves one speechless! Any classical liberal minded individual must be immediately cringing when reading this!

The welfare state is an unconstitutional disgrace that should be largely dismantled and replaced by private initiatives etc.

In conclusion, I strongly recommend the staff from the top down read the Cato letters again and start over!

On Post Fact Nonsense

Posted: 12/20/2016

Also known as post truth.

So called fact checkers have been all the rage lately. Who checks the self proclaimed fact checkers?

Notes:
  1. Humans have a strong tendency to be  very selective about facts. Perceived or presented so called facts are often in the eye of the beholder. Or in other words, humans like to cherry pick what they like to claim as facts.
  2. So called facts can be half truth or fake!
  3. Those who claim to speak the truth or claim to argue with facts are often liars!
  4. Too many humans are still very superstitious and irrational!
  5. Facts and fiction are often closely intertwined
  6. To paraphrase Oscar Wilde facts are rarely and never simple
  7. To err is human!
  8. Caveat emptor!

War On

Watch Your Tongue

It is a sad sign of our modern times that a violent phrase of war on x has been coined so often in our public political discourse. Is this part of a strategy to desensitize humanity? War on Drugs. Culture Wars. War on Poverty. War on Women. War on Religious Liberty and so on.

Language Of Barbarism

To use such a barbaric word like war so loosely in our language is not a sign of civilization. What is e.g. a war on poverty or a war on drugs? Is it not a war affecting some of our children and neighbors?
