Tiananmen vigil leaders jailed up to 7 years, as group is fined HK$1.5 million by Hong Kong's High Court

Bad news! Never forget that China is run by the authoritarian Communist Party of China!

China is illegally occupying Hong Kong since at least 2010! It violated the one country, two systems rule!

"Three former leaders of the now-disbanded alliance behind Hong Kong’s annual Tiananmen Square vigil have been sentenced to up to seven years and three months in jail under the national security law for inciting subversion by calling for an end to “one-party dictatorship” in mainland China.

Three High Court judges on Friday also imposed a HK$1.5 million fine on the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China, bringing the high-profile trial at West Kowloon Court to a close. ..."

Floods in Tibet: restrictions and disinformation by China are impeding vital news

Bad news!

Remember China illegally occupies Tibet since 1950!

There have been multiple news reports by different sources that again (like Covid-19) the Communist Party of China is secretive and repressive about the scope and damages of this latest natural catastrophy.

"Censorship in Tibet

In neighbouring Tibet, the difficulties in accessing information are even more worrying, and the contrast with Nepal is striking. At the time of writing, no independent Tibetan media outlet or international news organisation has been allowed access to the disaster-stricken area, according to RSF information.
This reflects a long-standing practice of the Chinese regime, which exercises some of the strictest control in the world over media professionals. As RSF has long noted, only journalists pre-approved by the authorities have been allowed to enter the territory, generally as part of tightly monitored reporting missions.
In the wake of the disaster, the Chinese regime only authorised state media to cover the floods, with reports emphasising the regime’s achievements and successes in relief efforts rather than providing a comprehensive account of the scale and impact of the disaster. According to the Chinese state-run newspaper Xinjing Bao (The Beijing News), the authorities have also punished at least ten internet users for “spreading rumours” related to the disaster. ...

“In recent years, under Xi Jinping’s tenure, Tibet has become a de facto information black hole. No independent Tibetan media, nor any international media, are permitted to freely cover news from this region. ..." ..."

Floods in Nepal and Tibet: restrictions and disinformation are impeding vital news | RSF "As the list of identified victims and missing persons continues to grow, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is sounding the alarm about the obstacles preventing the public from accessing vital information following the floods that struck Nepal and Tibet on 26 August.
In Nepal, partial cuts to telephone and electricity networks, the lack of accessibility to certain disaster zones and misinformation on social media are hindering journalists’ reporting.
In Tibet, these obstacles are compounded by restrictions imposed by the Chinese authorities, who are preventing the press from freely accessing affected areas. This lack of access to reliable information is also fuelling the spread of false reports about the scale and consequences of the disaster."

Hubei province prominent leader issues a challenge to Xi Jinping's economic policies

Good news, if confirmed! These are rare kind of news coming out of China!

Unfortunately, it appears that Nikkei is the only news media reporting about it and it is behind paywall without naming the "prominent leader". Too bad!

China’s Escalating Cyberattacks Threaten Taiwan’s National Security

Serious stuff! China is a bully!

Hong Kong was already invaded/taken over illegally by the Communist Party of China after the Basic Law became effective in 1997!

Why does Taiwan not offer reunification under the condition that China becomes  like a Western democracy?

"Amid intensifying cross-Strait tensions, Taiwan is among the world’s most frequent targets of cyberattacks, predominantly attributed to Chinese state-backed hackers. Taiwan’s National Security Bureau (NSB)  has assessed that infrastructure on the island experienced a daily average of 2.63 million cyberattacks in 2025, more than double that of 2023. Energy, emergency rescue, hospitals, and communications infrastructure were the sectors that faced the most significant increases in the number of attacks in 2025, as compared to the previous year.  ..."

Very recommendable! Was the Communist Party of China pushing to hard to standardize the spoken/written language?

China still generates almost half of its electricity from coal during the first six months of 2026

China has built coal fired power plants by the hundreds over the past 10-20 or so!

While the Communist Party of China has actively spread disinformation and funded green energy activists etc. to undermine the West with the global warming/climate change hoax. The most prominent, naive victim: Germany, which shut down its coal fired power plants and working nuclear power plants!

An investigation into a hidden gene-editing therapy death of a 6-year old girl in China

Food for thought! Is the Communist Party of the superpower China pushing the envelope too fast in an attempt to stay ahead or just negligent and careless about human lives like other communist parties before? Or was this only a singular, isolated  incident?

Why the rush for this therapy? Perhaps, there would have been even a better therapy available in the near future.

Caveat: I did not read the two articles in their entirety. One of the articles is very long.

"On 24 March 2025, physicians and scientists in China tried to help a 6-year-old girl whose brain wasn’t developing properly because of a genetic mutation. They infused into her spinal fluid trillions of viruses that carried instructions to assemble a so-called base editor customized to fix the faulty gene in her brain cells.
Her condition was not likely to be fatal, but it could bring lifelong disability and serious medical issues. So her parents turned to an academic team, who developed the base editor and showed them evidence that it worked in the brains of mice and monkeys. The parents were told the risks were modest and decided treating their daughter was worth the gamble.

The trial went tragically wrong, however, according to a Science and Retraction Watch investigation written by Brendan Borell. The child, whose parents asked that she be called Mei (Chinese for “beautiful”), developed a fever and then signs of kidney damage. She died within a week after being treated. ..."

"... Doctors hoped to repair that mistake while her brain was still building itself. It would be a clinical trial of one, funded in part by $860,000 the parents had scraped together from their own savings and from relatives. ...

The parents felt they were in good hands. Xinhua Hospital, which is affiliated with the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, was acclaimed for its pediatrics department. ...

Although news that base editing saved “Baby KJ” would soon rocket around the world—Science named the feat one of the runners-up for its 2025 Breakthrough of the Year—the story of what happened at Xinhua Hospital has remained hidden. An entry for the study posted to ClinicalTrials.gov has not been updated for more than a year. And when Qiu and his colleagues published proof-of-concept animal studies related to the trial in Nature early this year, they stripped the paper of references to the family and its financial contributions ...

That vague language glossed over tragedy: Seven days after the girl’s medical team infused trillions of viruses carrying the recipe for the base editor into her spinal fluid, she died of a severe immune reaction linked to the therapy, Science and Retraction Watch can now reveal. ..."

China News Network (CNN)

CNN [Cable News Network founded by Ted Turner in 1980] was the only major Western news service not censored by the Great Firewall in China mainland as far as I could tell during my most recent long stay in China.

CNN was widely available in central China.

What would Ted Turner [1938-2026] say if he was still alive.

The Chinese Great Firewall is absolutely horrible, worse than or comparable to the Great Wall of ancient times

On my very recent long stay in China, I was again deeply shocked by how much of the Internet/Web is heavily censored/inaccessible in China!

What are the communists afraid of or what do they have to hide?

E.g. all my favorite news websites like Walls Street Journal, BBC and many others were not accessible to me on any device when living in central China.

There was one glaring exception: CNN was widely available in China. Since then I call it Chinese News Network!

Of course, I had a VPN installed on my laptop before the trip to China, but due to some error of mine I happened to accidentally uninstall it.

They say history repeats/rhymes!

Here is an article that also covers this subject: When is the Internet Not the Internet? "China’s intranet is so separated from the global Internet that it is more accurately described as a national intranet." Caveat: I did not read the entire article.

Underground church figure Jin Mingri freed from prison by China after intervention by President Trump

Good news! Bravo President Trump! How many political prisoners are there in China?

Why are these kind of news so rare coming out of China? Does the Communist Party of China release political prisoners so seldom or does it not publish these releases?

"Underground church leader Jin Mingri has been released from prison in China and has travelled to the US, less than two months after his incarceration was raised directly by Donald Trump.

The pastor and founder of the Zion Church had been imprisoned following overnight raids across China in October, described by Christian groups as one of the strictest crackdowns on religious activity in the country's modern history. ..."

26 killed in fireworks factory explosion in China

Bad news! Communism kills!

Yesterday, I blogged here about the deadliest company in the world, the state-owned China National Tobacco Corp.!

"Incident on 4 May injured over 60 others, with rescue work hampered by further fires and explosions

An explosion at a fireworks factory in Liuyang killed 26 people and injured over 60 others on 4 May.
Five rescue teams totaling 482 personnel attended the scene, according to local news reports, but search and rescue efforts were hampered by re-ignition and further explosions of stored gunpowder as well as finished and semi-finished firework products on the site. ..."

China National Tobacco Corp.: The Deadliest Company in the World

This is shocking! Communism kills!

There is no doubt that too many Chinese people are smoking and smoking almost everywhere at anytime! I have seen it with my own eyes while visiting China. This is very regrettable and unfortunate!

"... Outsized impact: ... one company stands out as the single commercial entity linked to the most global deaths: China National Tobacco Corp., better known as China Tobacco—a state-owned company that for decades has controlled ~97% of China’s cigarette market in a country that consumes nearly half the world’s cigarettes.

Staggering toll: Tobacco use in China caused ~59–78 million deaths from 1990 to 2023, or 2 million people annually, per data from the Global Burden of Disease study run by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington.
China Tobacco is tied to ~57 million of those deaths—a toll surpassing fatalities linked to war, drugs, or traffic worldwide, even adjusting for the highest plausible death estimates from those other industries.
The company also wields significant influence over China’s public health policy, systematically undercutting anti-smoking efforts.
Intervention possible—and unlikely: Because of China Tobacco’s centralized role, direct policy change could avert millions of early deaths over decades.
But the government’s dependence on billions in tax revenue from the industry means the company “is likely to retain its spot as No. 1 in the world for years to come.” ..."

China's latest large-scale military exercises simulated a blockade, quarantine and isolate Taiwan

Perhaps, the aging Xi Jinping (age 72, dictator for life) prefers a full blockade over an invasion of Taiwan to gain fame and glory!

Maybe Taiwan will get the Berlin Blockade (1948-49) treatment?

When China becomes more like Taiwan and the Communist Party of China has to compete in fair and square democratic elections with other political parties then the Taiwanese people might very well decide in a referendum to be reunified with mainland China.

"The People’s Republic of China (PRC) conducted large-scale military exercises that simulated a blockade around Taiwan from December 29–30. The exercise, named Justice Mission 2025, was the second exercise of its kind in 2025. Justice Mission 2025 rehearsed operational elements of a campaign to isolate Taiwan while using the rehearsal to enhance PRC political and psychological pressure on Taiwan and its allies. PRC propaganda emphasized the blockade aspects of the exercise, but it may also have been intended to practice combining blockade/interdiction missions with operations that would support a decapitation strike or invasion of Taiwan.

Key Takeaways
  • Justice Mission 2025 simulated a blockade of Taiwan’s major port cities and the interdiction of Taiwanese energy imports.
  • The PRC deployed 14 China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels during the exercises, indicating that the CCG will play an important role in a blockade or quarantine of Taiwan. The CCG would likely interdict non-military vessels during a blockade to create a veneer of legitimacy under the pretext of “law enforcement” operations.
  • The exercise was likely rehearsing cooperation between the CCG and the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) in such activities since PLAN vessels operated together with CCG ships.

Hoffentlich bald!

Der Artikel wurde von einem Feuilletonisten geschrieben.

How strong is the urge of dictator Xi Jinping to invade Taiwan?

He is age is 72 years old.

His term is to officially end in March 2028, but who believes that. He may want to stay in power until age and health or an internal communist party revolt end his term.

How much glory and fame is he after? Or who is pushing him to invade Taiwan?

How many mainland Chinese people support a military invasion? We may never know for sure since credible, authentic public opinion surveys are rare or non-existent in communist countries.

One of the very few legitimate ways to reunite mainland China and Taiwan is by a referendum in Taiwan.

Perhaps, the strongest deterrence by Taiwan to any military invasion by mainland China is a threat to completely destroy the entire country and to leave only ruins and ashes to the invader plus a humanitarian crisis.

Australia and the sino-centric world order of the hegemon China

Very recommendable! Very well written summary! How isolationist may the US become in coming years?

As a minimum Indo-Pacific countries like India, South Korea, Japan and Australia/New Zealand have to work closer together and invite other countries (Indonesia, Philippines Southeast Asia etc.) to join.

When will the Chinese people get rid of the Communist Party dictatorship?

"Everything Australia has achieved—prosperity, stability and strategic freedom—has been underwritten by a great power that shared our values.
First it was Britain, then the United States. But with the second Trump administration, that arrangement is now uncertain—and there is no replacement. What we do know is that the period in which US power underwrote the liberal democratic principles that have shaped global norms since 1945 is over. A historical aberration at an end. ...

there is a greater threat to Australia’s liberal democracy: China’s intentional, coordinated effort to replace the existing international system with an order that preferences the Chinese Communist Party’s authoritarian interests. The threat is accentuated by our tying of our economic fortunes to an authoritarian state that doesn’t respect our democracy, national values or sovereignty. Indeed, it actively seeks to undermine them.

We must avoid the trap of false equivalence. The socio-cultural convulsions afflicting the US may make it unreliable, but it is China that is unmistakably threatening. The US undermines confidence; China seeks to undermine the system itself. The US is drifting to an unknown destination; China has spent decades enacting a plan to reshape global norms to privilege authoritarianism.

China’s strategic intent: a system built for authoritarian dominance

President Xi Jinping’s frequent invocation of ‘great changes unseen in a century’ reflects the CCP’s belief that global power is shifting in China’s favour, enabling it to correct what it views as historical injustices and reclaim a central role in global affairs.
China’s economic weight underpins this ambition. The Belt and Road Initiative was its first major effort to reshape international norms, later reinforced by the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilisation Initiative and the Global Development Initiative. In 2025, these were joined by the Global Governance Initiative, forming the pillars for an alternative, Sino-centric world order, which Beijing claims will benefit humankind.

The CCP has entrenched a narrative of ‘Century of Humiliation’ victimhood into national education, instilling the idea that China’s rise is both corrective and inevitable. While condemning Western imperialism, it sanitises its own. Rather than looking to the future, it looks to the past. Its grievance-driven nationalism frames external disagreement as hostility and conditions its public for confrontation. ...

In late November, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said that Japan could deploy its military in a Taiwan contingency. In response, China’s consul general in Osaka posted on X saying that Japan’s leaders should have their ‘dirty heads’ chopped off. Those comments aren’t an aberration: they are the content of the Sino-centric order’s character.

Colluding with other authoritarian states—most notably Russia, through their no-limits partnership—China works to dilute the liberal principles that have underpinned global prosperity and stability since 1945. And it seeks to be the leader in technologies that will be foundational to global power in the coming century, in part by plundering our intellectual property and leveraging the naivety of our universities. China’s undertaking of the largest military build-up since World War II, combined with its egregious behaviour, stokes fears over its ambition to reshape the global order at others’ expense.

As documented ... China has intensified its use of military pressure and grey-zone tactics against a range of countries to undermine norms, coerce neighbours and advance its interests. Beyond military intimidation, it employs a full spectrum of coercive tools, including:
—Lawfare to legitimise contested territorial claims;
—Economic punishment to silence critics;
—CCP United Front operations to subvert sovereignty and intimidate and leverage diaspora communities;
—Elite capture and corruption to secure alignment;
—Hostage diplomacy and arbitrary detention of foreigners to secure concessions;
—Cyberwarfare to shape negotiations, influence decision making and pre-position disruptive capabilities in critical infrastructure; and
—Information manipulation to control discourse, including persistent misrepresentation of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 as global recognition of China’s sovereignty over Taiwan.

While the West assumed that integrating China into global trade would encourage liberalisation, Beijing instead used its access to international markets to distort competition. State subsidies and export driven strategies have hollowed out foreign industrial capacity, deepened global dependencies and strengthened China’s leverage within the very system it seeks to transform. ...

The CCP’s domestic record shows its behaviour when unrestrained: broken commitments on Hong Kong, genocide in Xinjiang and an increasingly capricious environment for businesses that operate only at the party’s pleasure. If this is how the CCP treats its own population, imagine how it will treat the rest of us. Our world would be less free, less stable and governed more by coercion than consent. ..."
