1973: Former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir gives a poignant history lesson.

Very recommendable! She was quite a lady comparable to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher!
Still very relevant for the current situation! Among other things, she explains how the Arab refugees are used for decades like pawns and useful idiots to fight Israel.
She also seriously questions what is Palestine!

Israel's Prime Minister Golda Meir considered Palestinian statehood in 1970 according to declassified documents

Amazing stuff! I have no doubt that this question is on the mind of every Israeli Prime Minister! Probably, every Prime Minister tried and wrestled to find a reasonable and mutually acceptable solution!

However, many Arabs missed, failed to recognize, and actively sabotaged every opportunity to self-determination and to live in an independent state offering happiness and prosperity! Their foolish, persistent and systematic  Antisemitism has been a huge failure! High time to change course! History does to wait for utter foolishness to fade away!

"Former Israeli prime minister Golda Meir acknowledged the possibility of future Palestinian statehood in 1970 – three years after the Six-Day War – according to recently-declassified protocols ...
[She] held talks in October 1970 with senior ministers – including defense minister Moshe Dayan and education minister Yigal Allon – in which the possibility of a Palestinian state was discussed.
Meir, who famously said "There was no such thing as Palestinians" in 1969, apparently viewed the possibility of a future Palestinian state as likely to materialize in the future. “It will be necessary to leave the Arabs of Judea and Samaria an option to earn self-determination at a later stage, if and when it suits us,” Meir said at the start of the meeting. ..."

Golda Meir born in Kyiv, Ukraine 1898, educated in Wisconsin, U.S. emigrated to Mandatatory Palestine in 1921

Just a spontaneous reflection on the Ukraine! She was also one of the first female head of state of all Western countries in the 20th century.

What would she have said about the war of aggression by Russia against the Ukraine?

Former Israeli prime minister Golda Meir is a hero to Ukrainians in the fight against Russia

Amazing stuff! Wars are not won by military force alone!

"The most prominent Jewish figure in Ukraine right now is the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky. The runner-up may well be another country’s famous Jewish leader.
Golda Meir, the fourth prime minister of Israel [1969-1974] and a native of Kyiv whose family fled amid antisemitic violence, has loomed large ever since Russia launched its war on Ukraine late last month. Her words have appeared in pro-Ukrainian memes, been quoted by Ukrainian diplomats and even been pulled from the backpack of a battle-ready Ukrainian soldier.
Almost as soon as the war began, memes riffing on a quote often attributed to Meir, adapted to the current conflict, began circulating online.
“If Russia lays down its weapons, there is no war. If Ukraine lays down its weapons, there is no Ukraine” ...
But it is actually an adaptation of a quote widely attributed to Meir, who led Israel during and after the 1973 Yom Kippur War ...
“If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more violence. If the Jews put down their weapons today, there would be no more Israel,” goes the quote, which has been attributed to Meir on memes for more than a decade. Benjamin Netanyahu, then speaker of Israel’s government, uttered those words in a speech to lawmakers in 2006. ..."

New museum to showcase the women who helped build Israel

Very recommendable! Dedicated to the sheroes of Israel! As they say besides many heroes is a heroine and vice versa!

Unfortunately, the article does not contain a link to the website of this museum. It appears that the physical museum has not yet opened in Haifa, Israel.

"Maybe you’d start with Golda Meir (I blogged here, here, and here about her), Israel’s first and only female prime minister. Or the tragic and courageous spy Sarah Aaronsohn and paratrooper Hannah Senesh.

The list would include physician Vera Weizmann, the first First Lady of Israel, who helped establish Chaim Sheba Medical Center, now the largest hospital in the Middle East; and second First Lady Rachel Yanait Ben-Zvi, who taught Jerusalem women how to grow vegetables, milk cows and make cheese so their husbands could go out and build the state. ..."

Golda: A biographical documentary film about Golda Meir

Very recommendable! Great documentary! Great selection of original footage of her! What a lady (1898-1978)! She preceded Margaret Thatcher! She was also one of the first female foreign ministers of any country!

"... she was often portrayed as the "strong-willed, straight-talking, grey-bunned grandmother of the Jewish people. ..." (Wikipedia)

I was in particular struck that the director of this documentary e.g. showed what a heavy chain smoker Golda Meir was. Some of the footage looks so unreal from today's viewpoint. You have to rub your eyes!

Unusual Photos of Golda Meir meeting with Anwar Sadat

These photos were taken when the courageous president of Egypt Anwar Sadat visited Israel after the Yom Kipur war! "On 19 November 1977, Sadat became the first Arab leader to visit Israel officially when he met with Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, and spoke before the Knesset in Jerusalem about his views on how to achieve a comprehensive peace to the Arab–Israeli conflict, which included the full implementation of UN Resolutions 242 and 338." (Source). Both, Golda Meir and Anwar Sadat had a very jovial exchange when they met in person for the first time during his historical trip to Israel.

Golda Meir and the Foundations of Israel By Henry Abramson

Recommendable (Unfortunately, the audio quality is not too great)! Golda Meir was an amazing lady! I am afraid, Henry Abramson talked too much about other things than her!

Golda Meir was very wise!
