Feds Suspect Arizona State University (ASU) of Visa Fraud plus 8 other elite universities

Bad news! Is the Vice President on to something or are these just allegations?

"Vice President JD Vance on Thursday named Arizona State University among nine schools facing a federal investigation into suspected visa fraud involving foreign researchers.

J-1 visa holders account for about 61% of researchers on federally funded grants at ASU and the eight other schools, compared with a national average of 38%, Vance said.

The practice undercuts wages for American graduate students and researchers, he said. Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and MIT are among the other universities named.

ASU denied wrongdoing, saying it educates more STEM majors than any other university and follows U.S. laws and policies in its hiring."

DNA Doe Project identified remains found in 1982 as a teen who vanished in the late 1970s

Amazing stuff!

"A teenage boy from Buckeye has been identified more than four decades after remains of his body were found in 1982.

The DNA Doe Project, a nonprofit that uses investigative genetic genealogy to determine unidentified bodies, said Tuesday that they have identified “John Maricopa County Doe” as Mitchell John Pauli.

Pauli vanished in the late 1970s when he was around 14, according to the nonprofit. His remains were found on April 22, 1982, in a remote part of White Tank Mountain Regional Park. ..."

Why is alfalfa grown in Arizona?

Food for thought!

"... an analysis found agriculture uses nearly three-quarters of the state’s water.

Golf courses, data centers, and population growth are often cited for straining Arizona’s water supply, but an analysis found agriculture uses nearly three-quarters of the state’s water.

Farms use about 5 million acre-feet a year, with alfalfa accounting for about 1 million acre-feet and cotton a distant second, the analysis found. ..."

Florence Copper launches 1st new U.S. major copper operation in 20 years in Arizona

Good news! A renaissance of mining in the US!

"Florence Copper marked an historic moment as the company officially launched commercial production at its Florence facility on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

The move is the first new U.S. major copper operation in nearly 20 years and the world’s first commercial‑scale in‑situ copper recovery project.

For Arizona, a state built on the “Five Cs” — copper, cattle, cotton, citrus and climate — the milestone signals both a technological leap forward and a reaffirmation of copper’s place in the region’s economic identity.

An in-situ copper recovery (ISCR) or in-situ leaching (ISR) project extracts copper directly from underground ore deposits without open-pit mining, underground tunnels, blasting, rock crushing, waste rock piles or traditional tailing impoundments. ...."

Arizona Could Soon Get a 4th National Park. Really!

Next time I step out of our home in the Phoenix metro area, I will be in a national park if this goes on! Just kidding!

When are there too many national parks!

I think the power of US presidents based on the Antiquities Act of 1906 to create new national monuments needs to be restricted! Too much temptation to abuse it to go down in history (latest example the senile, demented 46th President, he declared 10 new sites).

"Congress passed the Chiricahua National Park Act, sending President Trump a bill that would make the southeastern Arizona monument the state’s fourth national park.

The 12,000-acre preserve sits 36 miles southeast of Willcox, where a volcanic eruption 27 million years ago left the rock spires visitors come to see. The land has carried federal protection since 1924; park status mainly means a new name and more tourists."

10 places to get naked in Arizona in 2026

Who said Americans are prudish? 😊

How about Lake Pleasant — Northwest of Phoenix?

"Do people really run naked through the Arizona desert? Believe it or not, they do. Hundreds of brave souls will run wild when the Bare Buns Desert Run returns Oct. 17 at Shangri La Ranch in New River. Billed as Arizona’s only nude run, the 5K race winds through desert trails, a dry wash and the ranch property. Clothing is optional, but tennis shoes are highly encouraged — along with avoiding any cactus along the race route. But if running is not your thing  ... there are other options to feel the freedom of going naked in Arizona in 2026 … without getting yourself in trouble ...

Arizona doesn’t have official nude beaches, but it has a long tradition of clothing-optional spots — mostly private resorts and remote BLM and National Forest land where nude use is tolerated."

A High Burden: The Growing Cost of Permitting Compliance in Arizona’s Home Improvement Market

Bad news! Are the bureaucratic hurdles in Arizona even for home improvement too high! It seems so!

From CSI email: "

What CSI found

➤ Roughly half of Arizonans need a permit for common projects like HVAC, roof, or water heater replacement, while others can do the same work without one, depending on location

➤ Permit fees range from $200 to $600+ depending on jurisdiction, and in Pima County have tripled over 20 years

➤ Among roughly 100,000 recently completed permits, about half were issued in four days or less, but 10% took more than a month, and the slowest 1% took more than 134 days

➤ Jurisdictions using SolarAPP+ approved solar permits in about 6 days versus 17 days elsewhere, cutting total project time from 65 to 35 days; self-certification reduced project times by about 40 days (13%)

➤ Phoenix reduced some approval times from months to just 24 hours; ...

Another Me Too event! Welcome to the Age of Gender Equality! Human, all too human! 😊

Maybe Ms. Sinema watched The Bodyguard movie (1992) one too many times! Just kidding!

Men watch out!

"... A new narrative of the affair was made available through depositions filed in the ongoing lawsuit initiated by the bodyguard’s ex-wife under North Carolina’s homewrecker law, which enables an individual to sue the person they believe to be the cause of their divorce. ...

Matthew Ammel (Ammel), Sinema’s former bodyguard, had been married to the plaintiff, Heather Ammel (Heather), for 14 years. The Ammels had three children together. Ammel began working for Sinema in the spring of 2022.

Not all Coloradans want to share their cities with Canada geese and their poop. Really!

What about Arizonans? I can tell from my neighborhood here in the Phoenix metro area that every year we have a large number of geese poop droppings on sidewalks, trails etc.

If you don't know geese poop droppings, they are huge (maybe comparable to dog poop)!

Let me briefly hypothesize that we have generally overpopulation issues with birds in Western urban areas!

Caveat: I did not read the article.
