A Mercedes-Benz Fire in South Korea Jolts EV transition, burned for 8 hours and damaged almost 900 other cars

When EV vehicles burn, they burn! Why are those fires so little reported in the news, because they are rare or because they might deter buyers?

Even one of the most prestigious carmakers in the world and German engineering can not prevent EV vehicles from a presumed spontaneous combustion.

"The flames and smoke from a burning Mercedes-Benz electric sedan spread rapidly through the underground parking lot of an apartment complex in South Korea this month. The fire damaged almost 900 cars, and 23 people suffered smoke inhalation.

It took firefighters more than eight hours to put out the blaze, which reached temperatures above 1,500 degrees Celsius, according to officials in Incheon, the city near Seoul where the fire broke out around dawn on Aug. 1. ..."

Fire-inhibiting, nonflammable gel polymer electrolyte for lithium-ion batteries

Good news! Yes, electric vehicles are a fire hazard! A fact we are not supposed to know in the name of the Global Warming hoax and Climate Change religion.

"... In their breakthrough research, the team introduced a trace amount of polymer, creating a semi-solid electrolyte. This novel approach dramatically increased the lithium ion conductivity by 33% compared to existing liquid electrolytes. Moreover, the pouch-type batteries incorporating this non-flammable semi-solid electrolyte exhibited a remarkable 110% improvement in life characteristics, effectively preventing unnecessary electrolyte reactions during the formation and operation of the solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer.
The key advantage of this innovative electrolyte lies in its exceptional performance and non-combustibility. By suppressing radical chain reactions with fuel compounds during the combustion process, the polymer semi-solid electrolyte effectively inhibits the occurrence of battery fires. The research team demonstrated the excellence of the developed polymer by quantitatively analyzing its ability to stabilize and suppress radicals. ..."

From the abstract:
"Herein, we present a gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) improving nonflammability of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) by blocking radical-initiated chain reactions which cause thermal runaway and finally fire issues. The polymer that makes up the nonflammable GPE was (1) soluble in carbonate electrolytes, (2) cross-linkable in the presence of a popularly used lithium salt such as LiPF6, (3) gelated only with 2 wt % in electrolytes, and (4) radical-scavenging by its functional side chains. Electrolytes having the polymer were thermally gelated within battery cells after the cells were assembled by a conventional way. LIB cells with the GPE were durable against external thermal and mechanical shocks without sacrificing cell performances. The high transference number of lithium ions and liquid-equivalent ionic conductivity of the GPE at only 2% solid content having a stable solid-electrolyte interphase layer formed even improved cell performances at normal operation conditions."

Fire-inhibiting, nonflammable gel polymer electrolyte for lithium-ion batteries A collaborative research team has achieved a milestone in battery technology. Their achievement in developing a non-flammable gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) is set to revolutionize the safety of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) by mitigating the risks of thermal runaway and fire incidents.

‘Massive problem’: Sky News host criticises sudden EV fires

That the powers that be are trying to suppress this information about the frequent spontaneous combustion of electric vehicles. Not to mention that these EV fires are difficult to extinguish and they release toxic fumes.

Is It Time to Ban Electric Vehicles?

Food for thought! Frequent spontaneous combustion of electric vehicles is a very serious concern! It does not get the public attention it deserves!

If it was not for the Global Warming hoax and the Climate Change religion, then these vehicles would probably not be allowed on the streets. It also explains, why the public is not supposed to learn more about the fire hazards of electric vehicles.

"The New York Fire Department recently reported that so far this year there have been 108 lithium-ion battery fires in New York City, which have injured 66 people and killed 13. According to FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh, “There is not a small amount of fire, it (the vehicle) literally explodes.” The resulting fire is “very difficult to extinguish and so it is particularly dangerous.”
Last year there were more than 200 fires from batteries from e-bikes, EVs and other devices. ...
As for the future of EVs, maybe it’s time for Ralph Nader to write a sequel to “Unsafe at Any Speed.” ..."

Salvage crews board a large cargo ship burning off the Netherlands. It was loaded with electric vehicles

Unfortunately, I do not have the time to do more research! Plus, there is a curious news outage on this incident. They don't want the owners or prospective buyers of electrical vehicles to know what they are buying.

Is this the second cargo ship loaded with electric vehicles that went ablaze?

The spontaneous combustion of EVs and how difficult it is to extinguish a burning EV are a taboo subjects for governments and carmakers! And the media are compliant and meek!

It appears the news about these two events are deliberately being suppressed! The involvement of electric vehicles in this fire barely mentioned! Or whether it was even the spontaneous combustion of such an EV that triggered the fire on board.
