Blue Origin successfully launches New Glenn rocket into space after a failed launch and rocket’s first stage exploded on the way back down to Earth

Bezos keeps trying! Competition is good, more competition is better!

"... While it was the rocket’s inaugural launch, a number of things went right, and the company had said that reaching orbit safely was its main objective. However, the rocket’s first stage exploded on the way back down to Earth as Blue Origin attempted to land that section on a drone ship at sea. The company hopes to launch again this spring, and plans as many as eight New Glenn launches this year. ..."

Bezos Earth Fund Announces $60 Million to Establish Bezos Centers for Sustainable Protein

This is not the latest news (dated 3/12/2024)! However, it is important!

Subtract the climate change nonsense, you still have the enormous challenge of feeding currently 8 billion humans on this planet. Traditional agriculture may not be able to deliver in a sustainable way.

"... Bezos Earth Fund ... announced an initial $60 million commitment to establish Bezos Centers for Sustainable Protein as part of the Bezos Earth Fund’s $1 billion commitment to food transformation. ...

The Centers will target major technological barriers to reducing cost, increasing quality, and boosting nutritional benefit of alternative proteins by advancing science and technology. To date, challenges in biomanufacturing – the production, at scale, of sustainable protein products, whether plant based, fermented, or cultivated – are resulting in high costs and limited quality. There are also enormous opportunities to enhance the texture and boost flavor through innovation in cell biology and engineering.

“We need to feed 10 billion people with healthy, sustainable food throughout this century while protecting our planet.  ...

This announcement builds on the Bezos Earth Fund’s $1 billion commitment to support farmers and expand food production in a sustainable manner. Work includes reducing methane from livestock and innovating in pasture management to help take pressure off forested land. The Earth Fund is also working with inventors, researchers, and entrepreneurs to improve the resilience and carbon absorption of major food crops.

Food is the second largest cause of climate change, and agriculture is the primary driver of deforestation and biodiversity loss. ..."

$15 Billion to nearly 2,000 organizations in Five Years: What Data Tells Us About MacKenzie Scott’s Philanthropy

Bravo! Very impressive!

What were feminists used to say about male chauvinists: Husbands earn the money and wives' spend it or donate it. (just kidding, satire)

"Over the last five years, MacKenzie Scott has gone from relatively unknown in the US philanthropic community to arguably its single most influential figure.
When she signed the Giving Pledge in 2019 following her divorce with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and wrote subsequent blog posts explaining her giving, Scott’s approach suggested an impatience to give away her wealth, a belief in giving as a way to empower the good works of others, and an unusual willingness to cede control. ...
Scott, whose net worth has been estimated to top $40 billion, established the organization Yield Giving in 2022 to manage donations. She has not finished giving, but with more than $15 billion granted to nearly 2,000 organizations, some meaningful patterns have begun to emerge. We parsed all the Yield Giving donation information available to date and matched it with Internal Revenue Service data to provide a deeper view into a giving campaign rare in its scale and unprecedented in its pace. ..."

$15 Billion in Five Years: What Data Tells Us About MacKenzie Scott’s Philanthropy - HBS Working Knowledge Scott's hands-off approach and unparalleled pace—helping almost 2,000 organizations and counting—has upended the status quo in philanthropy. While her donations might seem scattershot, an analysis of five years ... highlights clear trends and an emerging strategy.

Amazon Internet Satellites to Use Space Laser 100Gbps links between satellites in a mesh network to Transmit Data

Good news! Amazing stuff!

Amazon in competition with Starlink! Titans Bezos versus Musk!

"Amazon.com Inc., which launched its first internet satellites in October, says it will use space lasers to ensure reliable broadband coverage even in the middle of the ocean.
The technology will enable a satellite to deliver data to a cruise ship, say, even if the spacecraft isn’t in range of an Amazon ground station connected to the internet. Instead, the laser will pass the request on to another satellite that has a clear view of a ground station.
The two prototype satellites successfully tested the technology, which is officially called optical inter-satellite links, Amazon said on Thursday.
 ..."

"... Our prototype satellites, KuiperSat-1 and KuiperSat-2, include advanced optical communications payloads. We have completed multiple successful demonstrations of that next-generation technology, maintaining 100 gigabits per second (Gbps) links over a distance of nearly 621 miles (1,000 kilometers) for the entire test window. These tests validated the final component of Project Kuiper’s advanced communications architecture, and the results ensure that OISLs will be operational on our first production satellites, slated for launch in the first half of 2024. ..."

Amazon is about to go head to head with SpaceX in a battle for space internet dominance

They say competition is good! Why not in space!

Jeff Bezos and Amazon are late to the show!

"Last month, the US Federal Communications Commission approved the final aspects of Project Kuiper, Amazon’s effort to deliver high-speed internet access from space. In May, the company will launch test versions of the Kuiper communications satellites ...
The rocket that will launch Amazon’s first two Kuiper satellites—the United Launch Alliance’s new Vulcan Centaur rocket—has been assembled at Cape Canaveral in Florida. Its inaugural launch is set to fly two prototype Kuiper satellites, called KuiperSat-1 and KuiperSat-2, as early as May 4. Ultimately, Amazon plans to launch a total of 3,236 full Kuiper satellites by 2029. The first of that fleet could launch in early 2024. ..."

Wie MacKenzie Scott ihre Amazon Milliarden einsetzen will

Empfehlenswert!

Amazon Empire: The Rise and Reign of Jeff Bezos

Very recommendable!

However, PBS tried very desperately to blame Amazon for labor exploitation, poor safety record, ruining smaller businesses, third parties selling unsafe products etc.! Lot's of baloney!

PBS becomes really pathetic when they bring up Amazon Web Services, Cloud computing and Alexa. Amazon faces very intensive competition in these areas from e.g. Google, Microsoft and Baidu, Tencent, Alibaba.

Here’s where Jeff Bezos could start spending that $10 billion tackling climate change: A critical review

MIT Technology Review offers suggestion where to spend the $10 billion. None of them are to be recommended. The usual leftist, narrow and wrong talking points!

We can only hope and pray that Jeffrey Bezos is not that stupid and so gullible!

"First, supporting groups lobbying for policies like carbon taxes, subsidies or emissions mandates that would accelerate the rollout of existing clean energy technologies like solar, wind and electric vehicles, or directly backing the politicians pushing them. Second, funding early stage academic or national lab research and development in areas where we still haven't developed affordable and scalable ways of eliminating or canceling out the greenhouse gas emissions driving climate change.

Those could include: large-scale energy storage technologies to balance out fluctuations in wind, solar and other clean energy sources; methods for reducing climate pollution from fertilizers, livestock and other parts of our agricultural systems; and improved tools for capturing emissions from power plants and factories, or removing it from the atmosphere and permanently storing it."

What Bezos may want to consider investing in is (in no particular order and certainly not exhaustive):
  1. Economic development and prosperity e.g. in Africa and Latin America and some parts of Asia
  2. Nuclear fusion
  3. Superconductivity
  4. Hydrogen power
  5. Photosynthesis for power generation
  6. Desalination
Here’s where Jeff Bezos could start spending that $10 billion tackling climate change - MIT Technology Review: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos announced Monday he would donate $10 billion to combat climate change, marking one of the largest individual philanthropic commitments ever to the crucial environmental challenge. The details: "This global initiative will fund scientists, activists, NGOs – any effort that offers a real possibility to help preserve and protect the natural world," Bezos, the world's richest person, said in an Instagram post unveiling the Bezos Earth Fund.It appears he will donate the money to researchers and advocacy groups, rather than investing it into startups and other for-profit ventures tackling climate change, Axios reported.

Here is another article about Bezo's donation: Amazon’s Jeff Bezos pledges $10 billion to battle climate change

"“Climate change is the biggest threat to our planet,” Bezos said in an Instagram post."
Only proves to be among the richest humans on earth does not make someone very intelligent!
