The Amish Exception: The Story of Wisconsin v. Yoder (a famous US Supreme Court decision)

Recommendable! An example of American Exceptionalism!
Strange, this video did not even mention conscientious objector in the context of the Amish people! Nor did it mention the Quakers nor the Mennonites.

Eurpean Union: New mandatory Vehicle General Safety Regulation for all new cars despotism

Terrible heavy handed Big Government! This will make all new cars more expensive and unaffordable for some by government dictate!

This is extreme and excessive government paternalism to reduce 20 thousand traffic deaths and to pursue the net zero dogma! "The new safety measures will help to better protect passengers, pedestrians and cyclists across the EU, expectedly saving over 25,000 lives and avoid at least 140,000 serious injuries by 2038."

This is government despotism based on the horrible precautionary principle!

Most of these requirements should be left to free markets and free citizens to be introduced or not! The black box for cars is perhaps the only acceptable mandate!

The European Union has morphed into a Soviet Union as it gets larger!

"... How it works: Some requirements apply to all vehicles. Others govern light and heavy commercial vehicles:
All vehicles must implement speed assistance. They must monitor safe and legal driving speed based on road signs, weather conditions, and other external cues. They must also provide feedback to speeding drivers (for instance an audio warning or reverse pressure on the acceleration pedal) In addition, they must detect when nearby vehicles drive in reverse.
All vehicles must monitor drivers for distraction and drowsiness.
They must keep a record of the vehicle’s state similar to an aircraft’s black box.
Passenger cars and light commercial vehicles such as vans must include automatic lane keeping and breaking to avoid collisions.
Heavy commercial vehicles such as buses and trucks must implement warnings for lane keeping and breaking; automated control is not required. They must detect hazards in blind spots and provide warnings of potential collisions with pedestrians and cyclists. ..."

New Vehicle General Safety Regulation The new Vehicle General Safety Regulation starts applying today (7/6/2022).

EU Commission rules to force USB-C chargers for all phones

What nonsense! How stupid! Big Government dictates! Largely unnecessary since there are only a few standard chargers already! A Big Government mandate in search of a problem!

Big Government getting in the way technological progress by enforcing uniformity!

Why should Apple not opt to have their own charger for their devices? Apple is an exclusive and expensive brand so be it!

EU rules to force USB-C chargers for all phones - BBC News Manufacturers will be forced to create a universal charging solution for phones and small electronic devices, under a new rule proposed by the European Commission (EC).

How might a mask mandate play out? Look to the battle over seat belt laws

What a nice example of junk journalism! Who are they trying to fool?

What is wrong here:
  1. Government seat belt mandates in the U.S. have been unconstitutional ever since 1968. This is a very controversial legislation!
  2. The car accident deaths per 100,000 population increased after 1968 and did not decrease before roughly 1974 probably due to grandfathered or preexisting cars.
  3. How much of the decrease in car accident deaths was due to this unconstitutional mandate or due to better cars with more safety features other than safety belts
  4. Despite safety belt mandates, we still have about 11-12 deaths per 100k population
  5. The death rate of Covid-19 is about 70 per 100k population. How much does the author think this death rate will decline with a government mask mandate?
  6. Couriously, the article even mentions
"... Still, starting in 1984 with New York, states began passing seat belt mandates. The federal government eventually gave extra highway funding to states with tough laws. Meanwhile, new designs were making seat belts more comfortable and effective. ..."
I suspect we can make masks also more comfortable and effective?

"... Even in New Hampshire, the only state without any kind of [seat belt] mandate, [voluntary, perhaps promoted by better insurance premiums etc.] seat belt use is 71%. ..."
Curiously, the article even mentions that. It only confirms that a majority of people is reasonable enough to volunteer to wear masks if they think it provides safety etc.

"... But a mandate could be a bit of a haul in states, particularly those led by Republicans. ..."
Those pesky ulterior motives!

"... An October modeling study projected that universal mask-wearing in the US could save 130,000 lives by the end of February. ..."
Has anybody double checked or verified this model forecast? There are lies, damned lies and statistics! The main chart (see below) illustrating the results is already suspect!

"... In the end, what worked with seat belts were efforts by public health advocates, financial incentives, state level mandates, enforcement, solid research, and concerted effective public health messaging — all activities that are possible with masks. ..."
Concluding remarks by this journalist! To say that this journalist is naive would be a compliment!

How might a mask mandate play out? Look to the battle over seat belt laws If public health officials want to get people to wear masks to curb the spread of Covid-19, they might take a lesson from what is now a widely accepted aspect of American life: buckling up.

Repeal Big Governments Rear View Camera Mandate

Trigger

Living In A Nanny State Like The U.S.

For decades, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and/or the federal government have been meddling way too much with the automobile sector of the U.S. This agency has issued tons and tons of regulations to strangulate the industry and to stymie innovation.

As if the federal government is still reading Ralph Nader’s controversial book “Unsafe at any speed: The Designed-In Dangers of the American Automobile” published in 1965 every 24 hours.

What’s Wrong With Rear Camera Mandate?

Short answer: A lot!

As is often the case, it sounds convincing at first!

Simply unconstitutional! It is a violation of private property rights and freedom of contract for the purported benefit of more safety.

Second, by promulgating such a federal mandate future innovation will be stifled. What if lasers or radar turns out to be better?

Finally, and not least important let the consumers decide and demand whether they want such a feature or not. I personally like a rear view camera. It has its benefits.
