Burger King’s New Whopper Strikes a Blow in Fast-Food Burger Wars and at McDonald's

I stepped into a McDonald's restaurant today (8/6/2026) in the Phoenix, Arizona area, the first time in the last 1-2 years or so to quickly grab some food. I looked at the menu and thought to myself way too expensive and left!

It does not help that the McDonald's restaurants nowadays may look better and more refined or fancier or more upscale, but it is the food and pricing that ultimately counts in the very competitive fast food business in the US!

"The Number 8.5%

The increase in Burger King’s domestic U.S. same-store sales for the three months ended June 30. The chain is gathering momentum while archrival McDonald’s is grappling with challenges in its U.S. business, with traffic declining after recent promotional offerings and marketing failed to hit."

Female DoorDash driver faces felony charges after allegedly spraying customers’ food to make them sick

Bad news! Sickening! Notice again a doorbell camera exposed the criminal!

Welcome to the age of gender equality!

When home delivery of almost everything has become big business, criminals too see opportunities!

"A woman is facing felony charges in Evansville, Indiana over a DoorDash delivery in which she allegedly sprayed the food with a substance that made the customers vomit.

In a press release, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office said that it was contacted on December 7 by a man who said that he and his wife vomited and experienced a burning sensation in their mouth, nose, throat, and stomachs after eating fast food ordered through DoorDash.

The man told NBC News that he noticed something red had been sprayed on the delivery bag, so he checked footage from their doorbell camera. According to the sheriff’s department, the footage shows that after dropping off the food and taking a photo, the woman appeared to spray a substance towards the food from a small aerosol can attached to her keychain. ..."

McDonald’s has sold an estimated 1 trillion burgers since 1948 all over the world

Good news! I don't even know how many I have eaten over my lifetime! 😊

I once worked for McDonald's a long time ago at a very busy downtown location in my hometown Frankfurt am Main, Germany. It was a great experience!

"... McDonald’s stopped officially counting its hamburger sales after surpassing 100 billion burgers in 1994. However, based on recent estimates of roughly 75 burgers sold every second—or approximately 2.36 billion per year—the total number of burgers sold by McDonald’s is likely in the hundreds of billions, with some sources suggesting McDonald’s has already sold its trillionth burger. ..."

KFC Ranks Last in fast food Restaurant Reviews

This company should never have changed their brand name from Kentucky Fried Chicken to KFC around 1991!

"KFC was named the worst-rated food chain in the country after an analysis of 7.3 million TripAdvisor reviews of 244 restaurant brands.

The Louisville-based fried chicken chain, with 4,095 locations in the U.S., had an average customer review score of 2.89 out of 5, landing it dead last in the pecking order. ..."

Roman-era 'fast food' discovered in ancient urban trash heap on the Spanish island of Mallorca

This tells you what an advanced civilization well ahead of its time the Romans were! Just kidding!

One man's trash is another man's treasure! 😊

From the abstract:
"In the Roman city of Pollentia (Mallorca, Western Mediterranean), an exceptional zooarchaeological assemblage was recovered from a cesspit dated between the first century BC and the first century ad. The structure, situated in a commercial area adjacent to the forum, was connected to a food shop (taberna) via an underground drainage system used for waste disposal.
The faunal remains from the cesspit include mammals, fish, reptiles, and birds, with song thrushes (Turdus cf. philomelos) constituting the most abundant avian species. The unique depositional context and zooarchaeological indicators, such as skeletal part representation, provide valuable insights into the preparation and consumption of these small birds.
This evidence suggests that thrushes were commonly sold and consumed in Roman urban spaces, challenging the prevailing notion based on written sources that thrushes were exclusively a luxury food item for elite banquets.
The study offers new perspectives on the role of street food and everyday culinary practices in the Roman Mediterranean."

Yelp’s Top 25 Burger Chains in the US in 2025

Good news! There is one outlet near where we live. It reminds me that I have not eaten their hamburgers in a while.

Their menu is is very simple (see picture below)! Perhaps, one of their best items are the French fries made from fresh potatoes.

"... To celebrate International Burger Day on May 28, Yelp compiled a list of the top 25 burger brands in the U.S. These brands have more than 100 historical locations, operate in multiple states and are primarily categorized under “burgers” on Yelp. ..."

Our favorite hamburger chain! My wife, my brother in law and myself just went there yesterday to eat dinner!

You can't beat their simple menu and low prices!

As usual it was so busy with cars lined up all around the little building. Inside it was crowded too.

Caveat: I did not watch this video.

A McDonald’s employee in Altoona, Pa., saw the UnitedHealthcare CEO killer suspect eating and called police

Good news! Bravo! I hope, the employee will be handsomely rewarded!

"Police arrested a person of interest in the killing of the UnitedHealthcare CEO after a dayslong manhunt.
A McDonald’s employee in Altoona, Pa., saw Luigi Mangione eating and called police, the NYPD said. The 26-year-old was arrested on firearms charges (🔐 read for free). Mangione had a firearm suppressor, a ghost gun, a fake ID that matched the one the suspect used to check into a New York City hostel and a handwritten document showing “ill will toward corporate America,” police said. Brian Thompson was fatally shot Wednesday outside a Manhattan hotel. While searching for the gunman, authorities faced an unanticipated challenge: an outpouring of popular sympathy for him."

Die Currywurst feiert 75. Geburtstag

Eines der vielen Dinge, die ich hier in den USA aus Deutschland vermisse. Vielleicht sollte ich die Currywurst hier in den USA einführen?
