The Steep Contraction of Global humanitarian Aid from 2022-2025

Bad news! Maybe it is time for other countries to provide more funding!

"Global humanitarian aid contributions plummeted 30% between 2022 and 2025, per the State of the Humanitarian System 2026 report, which warned that the aid system has “suffered one of its biggest contractions since being formed in the post-second world war era.”

Funding fell from $47.5 billion to $33.3 billion, and ~23% of humanitarian jobs disappeared. ..."

Global Health NOW: Warnings Mount Over AI Health Hazards; and The Steep Contraction of Global Aid

SOHS 2026 in brief: Humanitarian action in a fractured world "The State of the Humanitarian System 2026 comes at one of the most demanding moments for humanitarian action in decades. Over 2022–25, state-driven conflict, climate shocks, displacement and attacks on aid workers increased just as donor-government politics drove sharp funding cuts. The resulting contraction forced difficult choices about who and what humanitarian action could support, and it exposed the system’s dependence on a few donors and the political and economic decisions beyond its control."

Trump Admin Has provided $310 Million in Venezuela Earthquake Relief, Delivered 60,000+ Aid Kits

Good news!

"... Due to over two decades of repressive and corrupt socialist mismanagement, the country was especially vulnerable to a natural disaster due to its barely functional healthcare system, a dilapidated electrical grid, and poorly constructed socialist housing complexes that reportedly collapsed rapidly.

The Venezuelan socialist regime, led by interim “president” Delcy Rodríguez, was quick to invite American forces into the country to help dig out survivors and tend to victims. ...

“What began as an urgent life-saving operation is now transitioning into a sustained humanitarian relief and recovery effort,” ... “Our four American urban search and rescue teams have completed their mission and returned home.”

the U.S. has released over $310 million in support for Venezuelans. Much of this is being distributed with the aid of international organizations such as Samaritan’s Purse, Catholic Relief Services, and the World Food Program (WFP), helping keep money out of the hands of corrupt socialist officials. ..."

Venezuela crisis: UN aid effort continues amid political upheaval | UN News. Really!

What a joke! Maybe it is time if not long overdue for Western countries to leave the UN and form their own organisation (including humanitarian aid).

Venezuela used to be and ought to be one of the richest countries in South America if not Latin America were it not for two incompetent and kleptocratic dictators like Chavez/Maduro!

"Venezuela’s political shock has sharpened global attention on a country already facing one of the world’s largest humanitarian and displacement crises. For the United Nations, the priority remains unchanged: protecting lives, sustaining basic services and supporting Venezuelans at home and across the region.

The backdrop
  • Venezuela has endured years of economic collapse, political instability, hyperinflation and economic sanctions from Washington, compounded by floods, landslides and other climate shocks.
  • The recent seizure of President Nicolás Maduro by US special forces has added a new layer of uncertainty to an already volatile situation.
  • According to the UN aid coordination office, OCHA, 7.9 million people — more than a quarter of the population — need urgent humanitarian assistance.

Red Cross refused to give medicine to Gaza hostages, Netanyahu says

What!!! If confirmed, then this would be atrocious! These are developing news. I have yet to see a Red Cross response to this allegation.

I might be wrong, but Netanyahu is not known for making things up.

"An International Committee of the Red Cross representative refused to bring a box of life-saving medicine to Israelis taken hostage in Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed in a Monday address to the Knesset plenum.
"I met with the Red Cross; I handed them a box of medicine for some of the hostages shown here. Some of them really need it...I told a representative to take this box to Rafah; she said no. ..."

Aid Worker killed in Ukraine: Heroic Jewish volunteer Emma Igual killed by Russian shell

Foreign non combatant volunteers providing humanitarian aid die in the Russo-Ukrainian war as well. Here is the story of one of them.

War brings out the worst and sometimes the best in humans.

Aid Worker killed in Ukraine: Heroic Jewish volunteer Emma Igual killed by Russian shell - The Jewish Chronicle ‘I don’t know how long my luck will last’ she told the JC recently

"... She told the JC she worked 20 hours a day and that she only could have friends who understood and accepted her obsessive focus.
In Ukraine, Emma co-founded her rescue charity Road to Relief. She and her cofounder Henri expanded its activities beyond the rescue of civilians and soldiers and delivering vital humanitarian aid. She began bringing out specialist doctors and creating a frontline mobile surgery, vital where the bumpy ride to a hospital could have been fatal. ..."

Aging Poles who rescued Jews during the Holocaust are at risk from the coronavirus. So this Jewish group is delivering food to them

Very recommendable! Don't despair in times of panic and hysteria!

"Since Sunday [3/15/2020?], the foundation has delivered groceries to about 20 people recognized as Righteous Among the Nations, Israel’s title for non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews from the genocide. The cabs are disinfected after each delivery and the group’s founder, Jonny Daniels, said he delivers the groceries personally to the recipients wearing a mask and gloves."

When America Saved Iran

The story about the Near East Relief founded in 1915.

"Near East Relief organized the world's first large-scale, modern humanitarian project in response to the unfolding Armenian and Assyrian genocides." (Wikipedia)

"It was during the throes of the First World War that Iran, a militarily-weak country, watched helplessly as Turkish and Russian armies battled each other across its territory, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake and tens of thousands of refugees. Starvation and disease were soon decimating these poor victims of war.
... America’s Near East Relief organization, perhaps the greatest American humanitarian organization that ever existed. It would go on to be responsible for saving at least one million lives in the war-wracked Near East in Syria, Iran, the Russian Caucasus and Greece, especially those of children."
