Milei's Latest Gamble to Save Argentina's Economy by opening up Argentina to mining and more federalism

Recommendable! Is it a gamble? I don't think so! It makes a lot of business sense!

The video points out e.g. that neighboring Chile has a lot more mining activity than Argentina although Argentina has plenty of natural resources as well to be mined.

Thanks to Starlink Argentina has now more than 2 million additional Internet users

Good news!

"In Argentina, where such a [government Internet] ban was recently lifted, two million people have connected to Starlink, many of whom live in remote areas of the country."

"“When Javier Milei became president of Argentina in December 2023, one his first measures as part of a package of wide-ranging deregulations was to open up the economy to satellite internet. ..."

Argentina formalizes withdrawal from World Health Organization

Good news! What is the WHO good for? Maybe time for a new international health organization!

"Argentina has officially left the World Health Organization (WHO), the agency of the United Nations responsible for international public health. A year after requesting its withdrawal, the process has been completed, Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno announced.

President Javier Milei’s administration had informed its decision to leave the organization in February 2025, and sent a notification requesting withdrawal on March 17 of last year.

The move was in line with United States President Donald Trump’s decision to abandon the WHO last year, a process that was completed in January.

“Our country will continue to promote international cooperation in healthcare through our bilateral agreements and regional frameworks, while fully safeguarding its sovereignty and its decision-making authority regarding health policies,” Quirno said in an X post. ..."

Argentina seeks arrest of Iranian supreme leader for 1994 AMIA attack, which killed 85 people

Good news! This could be a bombshell. However, the man is 85 years old!

Make him a pariah like Putin the Terrible!

I don't know how much the current President of Argentina, Javier Milei, is involved in this, but I suspect he approves of it.

"Argentinian prosecutors have requested an arrest warrant for Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei over his alleged involvement in the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish center in Buenos Aires.

Khamenei, who ascended to his position in 1989, was Iran’s leader at the time of the attack. It killed 85 people and was, at the time, the single deadliest attack against Diaspora Jews since the Holocaust. ...

In 2013, Argentina took steps to jointly investigate the attack with Iran. [Argentinian prosecutor] Alberto Nisman, was assassinated in 2015, hours before he was set to present evidence that a former Argentine president had covered up Iran’s involvement in the bombing.

In 2021, Iran appointed two men to its government who were implicated in the bombing."

What do citizens prefer? A government run by mediocre, lifelong career politicians or by capable business minded individuals fairly new to elected office, and ready to implement urgent reforms?

We will find out!

But the chances are very good that the example of Argentina's President Milei and the US President Trump to sway citizens of Western countries to study these two governments and compare them with their own government or to demand similar reforms.

Germany is another basket case in point. The current political leadership (too many mediocre, lifelong career politicians) of this country is in shambles!

Argentinien macht es vor: Bürokratieabbau mit Kettensäge

Empfehlenswerte Idee!

Argentina to withdraw from WHO after Trump exit, citing 'deep differences'

Good news! Bravo! When two men with a chainsaw and a waste truck unite! 😊

Don't cry for me Argentina! (Official YouTube video)
From the lyrics of the song: "It won't be easy, you'll think it strange ... So I chose freedom, running around trying everything new ... All through my wild days, my mad existence I kept my promise Don't keep your distance ..." 😊

High time for Western countries to form their own health organisation or to coordinate among themselves without the influence of any rogue, hegemon or dictatorship states etc.!

"Argentina will pull out of the World Health Organization (WHO), a presidential spokesperson said on Wednesday, following President Donald Trump's executive order last month to pull the United States out of the global health group. ..."

Argentina's Javier Milei Announces 90% Tax Reduction in 2025 and more tax competition among provinces

Good news! Milei is my man of the year! Don't cry for Argentina! 😊

The goal is a a limited and small government again! Let's get out the chainsaw!

More federalism and less centralism!

"... Milei implemented a series of drastic “shock therapy” measures to avert the collapse of the country’s economy and avoid a hyperinflation spiral.

Milei’s policies successfully reduced the inflation rate in Argentina, dropping it from 25.5 percent in December 2023 to 2.7 percent in October 2024 while also allowing the nation to experience ten months of continued trade surplus as of November.

Additionally, Milei spearheaded a dramatic overhaul of the Argentine government during his first year, reducing the number of ministries from 18 to nine on his first day and outright replacing other institutions — such as Argentina’s bloated AFIP revenue service, which was dissolved and substituted with a much smaller agency in November. The Argentine president also introduced a series of sweeping reforms that Congress passed in late June. ...

Milei stressed that his administration will continue with his economic reforms throughout 2025 and to that end, he stated that his administration is currently finalizing a “structural tax reform” that will reduce the amount of national taxes by 90 percent while restoring tax autonomy to Argentina’s provinces.

“Thus, next year we will see a real tax competition among the Argentine provinces to see who will attract the most investment,” Milei said. ..."

Argentina's President Milei Has Deregulated Something Every Day since December 2023

Good news! Bravo! What a splendid record by Milei!

Bring the chainsaw to Western countries and liberate them from many burdensome, useless regulations that have accumulated over decades!

The Road to Serfdom never ends unless you do something about it!

"Argentina’s President Javier Milei promised to take his chainsaw to regulations when he assumed power a year ago this week. His newly created Ministry of Deregulation began functioning in July, and virtually every day, Minister Federico Sturzenegger announces one or numerous regulatory reforms. ...

We should note that prioritizing deregulation makes sense. A legacy of the corporatist state that Peronism entrenched, Argentina is one of the most regulated countries in the world. On the Fraser Institute’s economic freedom index, Argentina ranks 146 out of 165 countries in terms of regulatory burden.

Measuring regulatory reform is challenging. Argentine government data is sometimes incomplete or vague. How to quantify reform can also be open to judgment. (Does the elimination of various articles of a regulation affecting different forms of economic activity count as one reform or several? What about the elimination of an entire law or its modification?)

The best source on deregulation in Argentina is the deregulation czar himself, Federico Sturzenegger. We used his posts on X and those of his ministry, where deregulations are regularly announced, and cross-checked them on other government websites. We were conservative in our quantification. If one or dozens of articles were eliminated or modified within one law, we simply counted that as one deregulation. (Each law that was deregulated, no matter to what extent, counted as one deregulation.)

What did we find? From December 10, 2023, when Milei assumed the presidency, to December 7, 2024, there were 672 regulatory reforms. On average, that means that during his presidency, Milei has been issuing 1.84 deregulations per day, counting weekends. Out of the total amount of reforms, 331 eliminated regulations and 341 modified existing regulations. ..."

Why do I publish fairly little about Latin America relative to other major regions of the world

I am a news junky! And Latin America has always been on my radar!

One of my suspicions is that public relations with a global focus and use of English language are sorely lacking!

No matter how much high quality machine translation has progressed the heavy use of Spanish only can be a huge barrier since I am not a Spanish speaker. Au contraire, why are Latin American sources not using machine translation more to get their news, messages etc. out to the world?

Case in point: Fundación Libertad of Argentina (also part of the Atlas Network). This non-profit think tank may provide excellent information on Javier Milei and his reforms, but their entire website is almost exclusively in Spanish!

Operation Kettensäge Gelungen - Der seltsame Professor Milei
